Park in the Casterino car park.
(S/E) From the car park, go to the end of the hamlet and take the path heading north. Continue along the track, ignoring the two junctions on your right, to reach marker 395.
(1) Turn left towards Lac des Grenouilles. Continue climbing, passing in front of an oratory.
(2) Continue south then west. Higher up, you will reach a south-facing plateau and continue to marker 392.
(3) Turn right towards Lac des Grenouilles. Depending on snow conditions, the sign may be covered by snow. From here, the path is no longer very clear, so follow the tracks to the snow-covered lake and its shelter. Go around the lake; do not attempt to cross it as the ice may not be solid enough.
Make a circular loop to rejoin the trail left at marker 392. Turn right and continue south-west to marker 390.
(4) This is the junction for the Fontanalba Refuge, which leads to the Vallée des Merveilles: do not take this direction, but stay on the track to begin the easy descent along the Vallon de Fontanalba. Reach elevation 1864 and arrive at the start of the trail to the military ruins of Gias de la Gasta.
(5) Continue to the left, reach the Profond stream and stay on its left. Reach marker 391, then turn left to return to the car park at Casterino (S/E).
Very beautiful hike
