The Gasthuisbossen from Ypres

There is a small car park at the end of Zwarteleenstraat (Zwaarteleestraat 9 for GPS).
It is a marked trail (green hexagons with the inscription 'gasthuisbossen') which I have modified slightly.

(S/E) At the end of the street, at the fork, turn left, north-east. Cross the road (caution: bicycles and cars) to take the wide, straight path opposite. You will reach a small road (turnstiles). Cross it and take the path opposite. 150 m further on, turn right into the undergrowth onto a path that slopes to the left and reaches a four-way crossroads.

(1) Turn left, heading north-west, and you will reach a T-junction. Turn right and continue straight ahead until you reach the road.

(2) Follow it for about 50 metres to the left, then turn right into the pasture via the path that slopes to the right and joins a road. Cross it and continue straight ahead on the tarmac for about 300 metres until you reach a farm on the left.

(3) Just before the farm, turn left, north, onto a narrow path. After walking along a block of houses, you will reach a small road. Follow it to the right, pass in front of a property and, a little further on, look for a path that branches off to the left.

(4) Take this path. You will then enter an area that can be quite wet, but there are facilities. Follow the "Gasthuisbossen" signposts, which are very clear. At the fork, turn left and you will come to a T-junction.

(5) Take the left path, which immediately turns right. Pass a crossroads and continue north through a very wet area. The path eventually slopes to the right and reaches a small road on the left.

(6) Do not take this road, but continue straight ahead, north-east, until you reach a crossroads. Turn right onto the straight path. At the end, turn right and then immediately left.
Continue along this path which, after turning right at a right angle, reaches a road.

(7) Follow it to the left. At the end of the left-hand bend, leave it and take the path on the right, heading south.
At the T-junction, turn right and continue for just over 100 metres.

(8) Take the first path on the left. At the T-junction, turn left and, after 200 metres, take the path on the right. After 300 metres, look for a path that turns sharply to the right at a post.

(9) Leave the "Gasthuisbossen" trail for a moment. Head north-west along this path through the undergrowth, which leads to a pasture. Cross it (close the gates behind you: animals). Pass a crossroads (bench) and reach a second one (peg 38) at a four-way crossroads.

(10) Turn left, heading south. At the T-junction, turn right (you will rejoin the "Gasthuisbossen" signposts) and you will immediately reach a small road. Follow it for a few metres to the right before turning sharply left. The path is straight at first, but then turns sharply to the right.
Pass a first road junction and reach a second one.

(11) Turn left. At the first fork, turn right and reach a second fork.

(12) Take the left-hand lane. At the T-junction, turn right, north, and after about 100 metres, turn west onto the left. You will reach a T-junction.

(13) Turn left, heading south-west, and continue straight ahead until you reach Wervikstraat. Cross the road (take care) and follow it on the right (cycle path: take care, especially at weekends). After 300 metres, take a path on the left which leads back to the Zwarteleenstraat car park (S/E).

Fairly easy route, but almost entirely in the woods, so make sure you wear good shoes.
