Laos walks
Luang Prabang, peninsula and monasteries
A superb stroll through the religious centre district. Don't miss out on a drink overlooking the Mekong (great bar at the mouth of the Nam Song River). The narrow streets and houses are wonderful.
From Luang Prabang to Kuang Si Waterfall
Hop on a bike to visit the region and its splendid waterfalls, where you can even swim and go boating. It's a magical place with turquoise waters. Early in the morning, it's quieter and the lighting is perfect.
Walking tour on Don Khon Island
If you are visiting Laos and staying in the middle of the "4000 Islands" on the Mekong, this short hike is for you. It allows you to appreciate the tranquillity and beauty of the area. It's magical. It is also possible to do this short route by bike, but walking allows you to enjoy the scenery more.
Walk on Don Det Island
Don Det Island is located in southern Laos, in the Phan Don or 4000 Islands region. Don Det is the most popular island, yet it exudes a sense of zen with its breathtakingly beautiful landscapes. The Mekong River surrounds these islands and offers superb views with monumental colours at sunset. You can tour the island by bicycle, but as a hiker, I prefer to explore at my own pace to better appreciate the panoramic views. Don Det Island is connected to Don Khon Island by the old French bridge.
Pha Boom
For those who enjoy steep hikes, this is an excellent way to let off steam and enjoy a very nice view from the Pha Boom viewpoint.
It is impossible to get lost, as there is only one path, and handrails are provided to help you on both the ascent and descent.
It is even possible to sleep up there for the more adventurous. Small tents are available. Be careful not to linger after sunset, as the descent should not be attempted in the dark!
