Start: From the little car park by the Lanercost Bridge
(S/E) From the little car park, facing the old bridge, take right (west) to walk over the dry stone wall and join the edge of the river. Continue following the river for a couple of metres before seeing a gate on the right.
(1) Pass the gate to enter the field. Walk across the fields (can have livestock) until reaching the road at Burtholme Bridge. There is a double stile to cross at (2) (dogs will need to jump over or be carried).
Once on the road, take left (west) to walk on the road passing the hamlet of Burtholme. Continue on the road until seeing a path on the left.
(3) Turn left, passing the gate to walk across the fields (can have livestock). Continue straight (north) across the fields until reaching a farm (on your left). Pass the farm and walk a couple of metres until seeing a path on the right.
(4) Turn right at the wooden gate (east) to join the old Hadrian's Wall. Continue following the Hadrian's Wall until reaching a road.
(5) Take right (south) and then left on the footpath to join again the Hadrian's Wall. Continue straight on the Hadrian's Wall until reaching the house at Haytongate.
(6) Take right on the road going down (south) until reaching Lanercost village and a road. Turn left at the intersection of roads then after a couple of metres cross the road to pass the gate inside the wall of the Priory. Walk to the priory and take the path on the right passing through the cementery. Stay on this path going towards the river.
(7) At the river, turn right and follow the river until reaching a road. Cross the road to find the car park. (S/E)
