Please note that there are few parking spaces in the village of Ayet, which is also very narrow. Park at the bottom of the village in the direction of Lake Bethmale.
(S/E) From the car park, retrace your steps, take the Route de Labarthe on the left at the hairpin bend, immediately follow the winding road, then take the second path on the left about 100 m after the bend. Cross the Ruisseau de Peyrequé.
(1) Shortly afterwards, there are a series of fairly steep and sustained climbs (note that most of the elevation gain on this route is on this section) until you reach the GR®10E.
(2) Cross the Balamet stream and continue climbing to the left (south-east). Pass a water pipe and then climb south to a crossroads.
(3) Follow the GR® opposite. Further on, pass some pastures (watch out for sheepdogs if you are doing this hike during the summer grazing season).
(4) Pass the old village of Salabert. Further on, the trail turns into a path and leads to the intersection at Étang de Bethmale.
(5) Cross the road, reach the edge of the lake, then go around it on the right and reach the road junction.
(6) Turn right onto the road, heading towards the D17. Take this road to the left for about 700 metres.
(7) Pay attention: At the abandoned road, cross the fence on the left and look for the first round post marked in yellow at the end of the field. Then follow these markings until you reach an intersection.
(8) Follow the path downhill. Pass two types of barns. The route then stays on the left bank of the Balamet stream.
(9) Further on, you will arrive at the Menhir de Peyre Quillado. Continue along the yellow-marked path, which further on turns into a forest track that leads back to the village of Ayet (S/E).
