La vigne à vélo, Les Arcs - Trans-en-Provence - Draguignan

A cycle route along the Voie Verte, between Les Arcs and Draguignan, following an old railway line, with a gentle gradient and a few short steep sections. A pleasant route that runs alongside vineyards and regularly passes through woodland. Once you reach the end of the Voie Verte, you can continue on to the village of Rebouillon by heading past the centre of Draguignan. This is indicated by the sign at the end of the Voie Verte.

Description of the route

Start from the tarmac car park above Boulevard de la Liberté, opposite the Socio-Cultural Centre.

(S/E) Head down from this car park and turn left onto Boulevard de la Liberté. Atthe first roundabout, continue straight ahead, leave the village and arrive at the Rond-point des Deux Cyprés, where there is a large statue known as the Arbre à Palabres.

(1) Take the road opposite, the D91 (Route de Sainte Roseline), towards La Motte, then immediately take the small road leading down to the right, Chemin des Bruyères. After passing a property, cyclists may wish to use the path running above the road to avoid crossing paths with motor vehicles.

(2) After passing under the bridge of an old railway line, turn immediately left onto Chemin de Trentessore.

(3) After about a hundred metres, turn left onto the Greenway, which is clearly marked by an information sign. Continue along this path, following the old railway line, passing under the next two bridges twice, and reach the third bridge, near the rural lodge "Les Muriers".

(4) Continue straight on, following the vineyards, until you reach a “Stop” sign at a new bridge under the railway line.

(5) Go under the railway and, at the other side, turn right onto the Greenway. Follow it until you reach a junction with a downhill path.

(6) Cross the road carefully and head onto the Voie Verte opposite. Go under the railway line again, then turn left and go up a short steep slope. The Voie Verte then curves gently to the left and reaches a Stop sign.

(7) Turn left, cross the railway bridge (Route de Sainte-Roseline) and, immediately afterwards, turn right onto the tarmac path, which is steep at the start. Near the dual carriageway, turn left and continue for about a hundred metres until you come to a path on the right.

(8) Take this path, which is sloping and runs through woodland, until you reach a small road with a ‘Give Way’ sign.

(9) Turn right onto a gently sloping road, ignore the roundabout on your right (D1555), and continue straight on along the small road overlooking the main road, following the Greenway. You’ll reach the “Give Way” sign at Chemin du Perdiguier on the left.

(10) First turn right then left to continue straight ahead on the Voie Verte.

(11) At the wide junction with a road leading downhill to the right (Route du Peical), veer left and take the Voie Verte, which climbs slightly. Continue to a “Give Way” sign and a wooden barrier, at the edge of the dual carriageway.

(12) Keep to the right and take the Voie Verte below, which descends and runs alongside the dual carriageway (Route du Muy).

(13) Go round the large roundabout on the left, dismounting to cross a pedestrian crossing , walk past a veterinary clinic and rejoin the Voie Verte opposite. Continue along this path, which runs alongside the Route de Draguignan, and arrive at the car park of a small shopping centre.

(14) Go round it on the left, then continue along the Voie Verte through the woodland towards Draguignan town centre and reach the bridge over the River Nartuby. Note the signs explaining the works on this river to better control its flooding.

(15) Then continue straight on until the end of the Voie Verte, opposite Rue François Mimault.

(16) An information panel here shows that this walk crosses the EV8, a cycle route partially developed between Claviers and Salernes. Return to the car park, above Boulevard de la Liberté, in Les Arcs, by following the Greenway back in the opposite direction to the outward journey (S/E).

Notes

(16) Planned extension of the Greenway through the centre of Draguignan, heading north-west to the village of Rebouillon.

Entirely tarmac-surfaced route.

Route inspired by the "La Vigne à vélo" route, published by the Draguignan Tourist Office.

Worth a visit

If you zoom in on your mobile, you may see that you are close to certain points of interest, but visiting them would certainly take you out of the “bubble” that is the Greenway. Make the most of this moment and explore these attractions using another mode of transport. There are three such attractions:
- The Chapel of Sainte-Roseline between (6) and (7).
- The Saut du Capelan at (7), looking east towards the D91.
- The Himalayan footbridge in Trans-en-Provence.

- The Puits Aérien near (14) next to the small shopping centre. It is a building listed in the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments.

Thank you, spirob, for letting us know about the Puits Aérien in Trans-en-Provence, which is listed in the supplementary register of Historic Monuments and is located not far from the greenway.

Hello,
May I suggest something for inclusion in your “Places to visit” section?
In the Trans-en-Provence area, it would be worth mentioning the opportunity, very close to the route, to see the aerial well (unique in Europe), which was originally designed to capture moisture from the air and collect water (1930).
I have a photo.
