Description of the walk

Park near Florzé Castle, in the car park to the side (Route du Comte) or at the rear.

(S/E) Take the small tarmac road that descends gradually from the south-west corner of the property towards a long farm building (riding school). After the farm, continue down the roughly paved road, which is in poor condition.

(1) In the woods, before reaching the bottom, turn right onto the embankment path, which is fairly straight and level. After 400 m, this passes under an old footbridge and leads onto another path: turn left onto the path that climbs, makes a hairpin bend to the left and then descends gradually. Caution: on the circular path, do not take the narrower path on the left leading to the footbridge, nor the one on the right leading to a ruin!

At the bottom (entrance to the mill-brewery), the path continues as a tarmac road, running parallel to the Amblève below the hillside (a place known as Emblève).

Follow this road for about 1.5 km until it joins the N30 main road.

(2) Cross the main road and head straight up Rue Vielle Chéra (street sign a little further up).

(3) After 400 m, opposite number 26 Rue Vielle Chéra, take the forest track that branches off diagonally to the right of the road (ignore the first track immediately after the dog kennels, which leads back). Continue climbing.

(4) At the junction, head down to the right. The path then leads to the entrance of a meadow (a light barbed-wire fence and wooden posts) and turns right: continue climbing (ignore the small path that starts to the left of the fence), as the path gradually narrows.

(5) This path continues as a track suitable for vehicles, which you take to the left. It passes old quarries and a telecommunications mast before joining a tarmac road. Arrival at the hamlet of “Sur la Hé”.

(6) At the top of the hill, near number 37, turn onto the path that veers off to the left; continue straight on along the narrower path (between two hedges) until you reach the tarmac. Turn right, then right again at the junction onto the small road leading back to the hamlet of Sur la Heid. This road curves to the right before reaching the hamlet.

(7) Immediately after the first house, take the path branching off to the left into the meadows. Ignore the path on the right 100 m further on. The path narrows shortly afterwards and leads into a wood. Ignore the path descending to the right and continue leftwards on a slight incline. Follow the path until you reach the tarmac road.

(8) Turn right onto it, walk for about 300 m and take the path on the left just before the monument. It runs between two hedges and rows of trees for a kilometre, then enters a small wood. At the junction, turn left between the wood and the meadows. Once you reach the tarmac road, turn right for about thirty metres.

(9) Then turn right into Rue des Trixhes. This road continues as a country lane after the last house and the first junction (path coming from the right and tarmac to the left). Continue to the next junction (the road curves in an ‘S’ shape) and turn left. At the junction, keep left to quickly reach a tarmac road. Cross the crossroads to enter Rue du Tige, then turn left at the fork into Rue de Mackinhaye.

(10) When you reach the main road (N30), cross diagonally and follow Rue du Château d’Eau. Take the third street on the left, Rue Entre Deux Tiges (no sign). Follow it down to the local school and immediately afterwards take Rue de Florzé on the right. At the bottom of the street, keep left and then take the path on the right leading to the castle. Go round the castle on the right to return to the starting car park (S/E).

Easy to follow using the app. I didn’t use the route descriptions. I completed it in three hours, walking at a normal pace. A lovely route, especially at the start. I didn’t enjoy the end quite as much, but it was still a pleasant circular route.

Following feedback from walkers, I have revised this route and clarified any points that were unclear. I hope this route can now be followed using a GPS or an IGN map.

A lovely route with beautiful views in places, but several points – including numbers 1, 8 and 9 – are really unclear.
You have to read and reread the description to find your way around, even though there are much more visible and clearly marked landmarks.
A real shame.

A lovely walk, though the route description needs a few tweaks – I agree with the comment by the hiker Thanquet. Thank goodness we had our GPS.
Thanks for this walk

As we live in Aywaille, we set off from there. The walk is signposted by the tourist office (Red Rectangles)
The start point was difficult to find. Having found the return markings, we did the walk in reverse. It wasn’t easy, as the markings
is ambiguous in places. With a good map, you can find your way around.

A beautiful area, with a varied route offering lovely views and not too many paved sections.
At least for the part of the route we managed to complete, as we had to give up halfway through because we’d wasted so much time due to errors and inaccuracies in the description.
A few examples:
(1) “turn right onto the sunken path”: the path at this point is not sunken at all but, on the contrary, raised!
"Climb up the embankment and go straight down": if you go straight down, you end up on private property at the ruins of the old Emblève castle; in reality, before going down, you first have to make a hairpin bend
(3) "then continue further along the forest path that branches off diagonally to the right of the road": as there is no indication of distance, you take the first path branching off diagonally to the right of the road, which leads to an abandoned quarry and is a dead end
This is the first time I’ve had this sort of mishap with a VisoRando route.
In short, a word of advice: for this walk, rely solely on the map!
