The car park opposite the Pierres Rouges chairlifts is the starting point for the hike (near the Col de la Ramaz, on the D308 road).
NB: 600 m after the start, a sign indicates: private property guarded by sheepdogs, everyone is welcome, but domestic dogs are not allowed on the property.
(S/E) The trail heads north-east. A green sign indicates the direction of Pointe de Chalune. The first part of the hike to Chalet Blanc is easy with a moderate elevation gain on a carriage road where you will encounter sheep and cows during the summer season. Pointe de Chalune is not visible at the start, but the view opens up clearly as you come out of the bend.
(1) At the fork, follow the signs on the signpost: turn left (north), leave Chalet Blanc on your right, and go around a mound on the left.
(2) At the crossroads, take the path heading due north (ignore the path on the left leading to Col de Vesinaz and the path on the right leading to Chalet Blanc; there was originally a signpost here, but it is broken). The path quickly turns north-east: you then begin the climb to Col de Chalune. The path is steeper but not difficult.
(3) At the pass, follow the sign pointing towards La Pointe (ignore the other paths). The path starts off northwards and then turns west. The last part of the hike is less steep but more rugged, though not particularly difficult. Note that there is a short section through the rocks where you will need to use your hands.
(4) The return journey is via the same route to the junction with the path leading to the Chalet Blanc.
(2). Then turn left and go around the mound. Pass between the chalets and follow the road to the fork you took on the way up.
(1). Turn left and descend towards the car park (S/E) via the same route as on the way up.
