Description of the walk

The start of this hike is located in the car park of the church in Vaujours.
You can get there by car or public transport. Bus 642 serves the Vert Galant and Le Chenay-Gagny stations on the RER B and E lines. Get off at the Giffard or Montauban stop, depending on the direction of the bus.

(S/E) When you leave the church car park, turn left and go up the path that runs alongside the cemetery wall until you reach the gate.

(1) From here, you have a panoramic view of the plain, with Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport in the distance. Continue up this path between two wire fences, then turn left at the end of the "Les Jardins du Renard" residence.

(2). Go down the steps to Rue de Coubron.
Turn right into this street, then a few metres further on, turn right again and continue climbing until you reach the roundabout. Please note that traffic can be heavy and there is no pavement for about 200 metres.
Once at the roundabout, cross it to go opposite onto the Route du Bois de Bernouille, which slopes downwards and has pavements.
Continue to the Promenade de la Dhuis (markedGR®14A, parallel white and red lines), which crosses it in the bend.

(3) Turn left to follow the Promenade de la Dhuis eastwards.
It winds its way along a gentle curve. At the 1127 hectometre marker, it is blocked by two rows of metal arches.

(4) Leave theGR®, turn right and descend the path markedPR® (a yellow line). After about 200 m, turn right, then 100 m further on, turn left. The path passes through the middle of a field.
Continue to a wide stony path.

(5) At the crossroads, take a recent carriageway on the right, which is not yet shown on the IGN map. Continue until you reach the crossroads with Chemin de Montauban. Take the Sentier des Plâtrières opposite, which will take you to Clos de Bréon. This is a small vineyard maintained by the Confrérie des Compagnons du Clos de Bréon.

(6) Turn left onto the vineyard path. When you reach Rue de Vaujours, opposite the Parc de la Mairie de Coubron, turn left.
Rue de Vaujours curves to the right and ends at Rue Jean Jaurès.
Cross the crossroads and take Rue Raoul Larche. At the next crossroads, cross and turn right into Impasse Allée du Parc, which climbs towards the forest.
When you reach Rue des Châtaigniers, turn left onto thePR® marked trail, which will take you to a gate at the entrance to the Bondy Regional Forest. The forest is completely fenced in.

(7) Once in the forest, continue uphill until you reach a crossroads with a large sign showing a map of the estate.
Follow thePR®, which is the second path on the left. It descends and turns right at the lower part of the forest.

(8) At the next crossroads, turn right, still following thePR®, which leads to a small pond. Turn right then left, and the path runs along the bank of this pond until you reach the earthen dam of the Étang Virginie.

(9). At the foot of the embankment, turn right to climb up onto it, then turn left.
Cross the embankment and, when you reach the end, turn right, continuing to follow the PR®.

(10) At the Étang Isabelle, continue straight ahead and pass by the Fontaine Frère Jean, protected by a metal balustrade and located below. A little further on, at the crossroads, take thePR® signposted path that starts straight ahead, leaving the beautiful track on your right.
Be careful not to turn onto the dyke separating the two ponds on your right. It is easy to do if you are not paying attention.
Follow the path to the next dyke, which you will reach near the small bridge over the Étang Dominique spillway. Turn left and then immediately right to follow the path that winds its way to a track that you will take on the right. After the stream, take the wider track on the left. This is still the PR®.
Continue along this path until it crosses another path at an angle.
Be careful! Continue straight ahead; from this point, you are leaving the PR®.
A little further on, at the crossroads, you will come to a red and whiteGR® sign. Take it to the left, then turn left again a few metres further on and follow it to the crossroads where you will see a large masonry fence. Turn right and follow this fence to the Étang Beauclair.

(11) Leave theGR® and go around the pond, turning right. A little further on, you will come to the Promenade de la Dhuis, easily recognisable by its two tracks separated by a grassy central reservation, at hectometre marker 1173.
Turn right and follow this path to the gate at the exit of the forest

(12). From there, you can see the traffic lights on your right that protect the main entrance to the park. Cross the road (D136) at the pedestrian crossing and continue your walk along the Promenade de la Dhuis until it crosses the Route du Bois de Bernouille

(3). Turn left and walk up to the roundabout. Cross it and walk down Rue de Coubron until you reach the steps on the left of the Résidence Les Jardins du Renard.
Climb the stairs and continue along this path, which will take you back to the church car park (S/E).

In the nearby area

The Bondy Forest once stretched east of the Paris region as far as the Fontainebleau Forest. Today, only a few wooded areas remain, divided between the Bondy Regional Forest, the Coteaux de l'Aulnoye and the Poudrerie Forest Park.

The Aqueduc de la Dhuis is an underground canal whose right-of-way has been converted into a 27 km walking trail between Dampmart and Le Raincy. The trail consists of two paths separated by a grassy median, with markers indicating the distance in hectometres along the way.

The Montfermeil Mill.

The Chapel of Notre-Dame des Anges in Clichy-sous-Bois.

At this time of year, in mid-March, the path is very wet and muddy, and halfway there, when you reach the road, which is uninteresting and not at all pleasant as there is no pavement on the side of the busy road, you come to a slippery slope where you are bound to fall! And there are no steps, as advertised!
In short, another route to avoid, and it's not the first one we've tried! That's enough to convince us never to use this app again!

The route should be updated. As the staircase in the Jardins du Renard has been closed off, take Rue de Coubron in Vaujours to reach the start of the route. Crossing the Bois de Bernouille (now easily accessible) to reach the Dhuys is preferable to following the departmental road down to Coubron (no pavements and poor visibility for motorists). Some parts of this route can be very busy at weekends when the weather is good. The car park at the start can also be very crowded during celebrations and ceremonies at the cemetery and religious activities at the church (funerals, weddings, etc.)
Despite these minor issues, the route is a change of scenery and gives a beautiful image of Seine-Saint-Denis, far from the usual clichés.

The only downside:
At point 2, "stairs" with steps carved into the soggy ground, a real hazard
Then you have to walk on a section without a pavement.
The rest is FINE, with just a little mud to show that there was any.

A very pleasant and varied walk in the heart of nature. At point 9, access to the Virginie pond embankment is prohibited and the pond is dry. Anemones and wild hyacinths in the forest. Magnificent views along the Bernouille woods. Surprise discovery of a vineyard.

At first, it was impossible to find the staircase mentioned, as it no longer exists. This route isn't particularly interesting, with straight lines and lots of people around 3pm.
However, there are some beautiful views and very muddy passages between the fields that are difficult to access.
The pond area is nice.

Good evening,
I am a leader in the Clichy sous Bois hiking club "Pieds Agiles". There were five participants on this hike. Everyone enjoyed the route, which was easy. Thank you for organising it. See you soon on the trails. Claude,

A peaceful and relaxing route through the Bondy forest, apart from a few earth-moving machines working on the aqueduct section of the Dhuis, this urban route is worth a detour for the mill (6) and Jean Valjean Park (7), where you can spare a thought for little Cosette at the fountain

A pleasant walk; in the heart of the Petite Couronne, you find yourself (on part of the route) in the middle of the forest. The walk along the Dhuis aqueduct is the most "wild" (and least frequented). Between points 7 and 12, you walk through a kind of large, well-maintained park, which is less wild and quite busy.
Good news: the steps at point 2 have reappeared, even if they are carved into the earth.
There are a few small errors in the description: as noted by others, at point 4, the arches are at marker no. 1133. Immediately after that, there is no zigzag to follow (indicated in the description: After about 200m, turn right, then 100m further on,...) but just follow the path and then turn right towards Clos Bréon

We did the walk at the end of November, so make sure you wrap up warm! We cut the walk short because we were too cold, going straight from marker 6 to 12.
It was very pleasant, as it was close to Paris and quite a change of scenery, allowing us to recharge our batteries. It made us want to come back and go on other walks in the forests of Bondy and Burnille.
There are no longer any stairs at the start of the walk, but it is still accessible. Be careful not to slip!
For the arches, don't turn at the first ones you see (1127 I think) but follow the signs on the route.
