When you arrive in the centre of the village via the D12E2, park near the church in a small car park between the war memorial and the recycling bins. See further on in the description for an alternative car park.
Many of the paths taken are not shown on any map, or are poorly marked. You will need to rely on my GPS track. This is a route featured in the "Bol d'air" leaflet from the Argentat Tourist Office.
Yellow markings topped with a "1" can be found throughout the route.
(S/E) Head back towards the church and you will see mountain bike trail signs on the right. On the lamppost next to it, among other markings, you will see the one you will follow throughout this route: a yellow line topped with a "1". This marking is clearly visible throughout the entire route.
Follow it by going around the church on the left, passing to the right of the school, then stay on the street when it turns right (alternative car park on the left, towards the back).
At the bend in the road to the left, continue along the path (signposted "no entry except for residents", bearing our markings and orange markings,GRP®® and VTT 6 and 8).
(1) At a wooden sign marked "Le Puy du Tour par le Chemin des Vigne" bearing our markings, leave theGRP®® which branches off to the left. Further on, pass an old winegrower's hut (marked "Petit pied à terre des vignerons"), climb a few bends and pass a second hut. Continue climbing very gradually up the slopes of Puy du Tour.
(2) Almost at the summit, you will see a clearing on your left where you can enjoy a view of the paragliders' take-off area. Return to the path and continue around the summit of Puy to reach the foot of the antenna. This site is an ancient Gallic oppidum (information panel).
Descend by following the access road to the antenna. When the road makes a hairpin turn to the right, follow the path straight ahead which leads to a ridge, at the level of a deforested plot, offering a view to the east.
(3) Continue along this path, which shortly afterwards descends from the ridge after a left turn and continues through the undergrowth. Cross a road and continue along the grassy path opposite. Further on, as you pass below the Monceaux cemetery, the path turns into a small stream and then joins a road.
(4) Follow this road to the right (markings for routes "1" and "2" on this section), then climb the path to the right of the house with red shutters (fishermen's lodge). Continue along this path through the woods, above a stream.
The path then moves away from the stream. At a three-way junction, turn left. At the next three-way junction, ignore the yellow "2" signpost on the right and continue left, with a marshy meadow on your left. At the intersection, turn left to continue along the meadow, then cross the stream via a bridge.
(5) Shortly afterwards, turn right onto the path through the undergrowth, which is initially higher than the stream. The trail then descends to the level of the stream. Cross a stream and ignore a path on the left. Shortly afterwards, at a fork, go left. Continue climbing steadily. After a hairpin bend to the left, cross the stream again.
(6) Continue climbing steadily. Finally, leave the woods and come out in the middle of meadows. Continue climbing to reach the ridge.
(7) A few metres after a solitary cherry tree, turn left onto a grassy path. Further on, ignore a path on the right, then one on the left, and continue on the grassy path between meadows. After skirting a wood on your left, you will come to a road.
(8) Continue straight ahead on an old road with a chestnut grove on your left. Join a slightly wider road and follow it to the right for about 100 metres.
(9) Turn onto the path on the left. Continue, ignoring a path on the right, and you will arrive at a paragliding take-off area offering a view to the east.
(10) Continue along the path that enters the woods and, after a few bends, begins a long descent to the hamlet of La Salle.
(11) At the hamlet, continue along the small road which soon joins the first houses of Monceaux. Continue following the signs and the main road. At Rue du Malefarge, which goes straight ahead, turn right to reach the car park (S/E).
