To reach the start, take the Route de Vaugines from Cucuron. Then turn right onto a small road heading north, follow it for about 1 km, and you’ll reach a field of olive trees. There is space to park two cars.
(S/E) Follow the path heading due north and walk up the valley to a junction.
(1) Turn left. On the path you can see an old charcoal burner’s house. Continue to a crossroads in an open area offering a fine view of the Durance valley and Sainte-Victoire.
(2) Continue northwards on the main path, which climbs along the valley floor to a fork (elevation 657m).
(3) Head straight on to a crossroads.
(4) Turn sharply left towards Baumatrône and head along the hillside to a fork at a small pass (884m).
(5) Continue along the path on the right and, after a wide bend to the right, reach a fork.
(6) Climb up to the right and reach La Citerne.
(7) You are rewarded with a stunning view of Mont Ventoux and the Alps. Continue on to reach the Luberon ridge at a small, unnamed pass (929m).
(8) Take the path on the right that heads due south and return to the crossroads you passed on the way out.
(4) Continue straight on until you reach the fork you passed on the way out.
(3) Take the track on the left, a few metres higher up, to a DFCI water tank.
Beautiful view of the Luberon and the Alps.
(9) Turn right then left towards Saint-Esprit. On the path, which is more or less well-marked, you can see a very isolated property with a pond and a spring that isn’t very productive. Return to a good path at a T-junction (elevation 502).
(10) Turn right and follow the valley to the original fork.
(1) Continue straight on to reach the car park (S/E).
