Start from the car parks at the town hall or the nearby church on Rue de Lancelot-du-Lac, which is the main street in Montrieux-en-Sologne.
(S/E) Turn left onto Rue Lancelot-du-Lac (D104) then turn right after 150m towards “Étang de Beaumont”. A cycle path runs alongside Rue Édouard Payen.
(1) Leave this road after 150m, turning left at the fork towards the water tower. Follow this small road until you reach a junction 400m after the start on the left towards La Butte, on the edge of Bois Bernard.
(2) At the junction, a road branches off to the left, whilst a hard-surfaced track lies opposite and to the right, signposted ‘Étang de Beaumont’.
Turn right onto the hard-surfaced track.
(3) The Étang de Beaumont observatory is on the left, just before a brick farmhouse, the Point du Jour. It is accessed via a wide track and then a footbridge.
Back on the hiking trail, pass Le Point du Jour. At the three-way junction, take the gravel path on the right.
(4) Turn left onto a little-used grassy path about a hundred metres after the entrance to Château Villemorant on your left. The path leads to the hamlet of La Damonerie.
(5) Keep left at the fork onto the CR de la Damonerie, a grassy track that is “spongy” and waterlogged after heavy rain. The path leads to the hamlet of La Tuilerie. A pile of wood blocks the entrance.
(6) Turn left where the path meets the D22, then right onto the D923, where you should proceed with caution along the wide hard shoulder.
(7) Leave the D923 after 350m, taking the hard-packed track on the right, the Chemin de l’Auneau. Pass the Auneau and its pond
(8) At the junction with the D22, turn left. The D22 becomes Rue Édouard Payen as it enters the village of Montrieux-en-Sologne.
(1) Continue straight on at the junction, then keep left at the cross on the main street, Rue Lancelot-du-Lac (D104), to return to the church and the town hall, the starting point of the walk (S/E).
