Park in the car park before the stadium after the village of Camplong.
(S/E) Walk along the stadium, turn left down the path that crosses the Roumégouse. Go up, leaving the Garenne path on your right. Pass a small house and a garden. Cross the Espaze on the wooden footbridge, then follow the arboretum path (botanical information sign) that runs along the right bank of the Espaze.
(1) Continue opposite, still on the right bank of the Espaze, until you reach the ruins of the Jasse du Pistole.
(2) Palaeobiological arboretum. Go to thePR® crossroads on the left.
(3) In front of the ruined house, climb up to the left for 200 m, then turn right into a forest of Laricio pines. The trail climbs to a crossroads. Take the Lavelanède trail on the left; it winds along a ledge halfway up the slope, then joins the main trail (yellow markings).
(4) Continue climbing and cross two streams (handrail). The trail climbs under the beech forest to the shelter of Mas Castel (picnic area). Pass the Atlas cedars and, 100 m after, reach a fork.
(5) Ignore the track on the right and continue straight ahead on the track that leads to the Col sans Nom.
(6) To reach the Caumette orientation table, continue along the path on the right and head for the rocky promontory (778 m).
(7) Return to the Col sans Nom via the same route.
(6) Turn right and continue on the yellow-markedPR® trail to the Col de la Pause.
(8) Leave the Caumette bypass trail on your right and turn left at an acute angle. The trail follows the contour line to join the PR® variant at the next crossroads.
(9) Leave the alternative route on your left, descend through the chestnut trees (follow the signs carefully) and reach the bottom of the Espaze valley at the initial crossroads.
(1) Take the route used on the way out to the right, return to the starting point and the car park (S/E).
This hike could have been fabulous if it hadn't been for the swarms of horseflies that plagued us for over an hour.
