Description

Start: King's Cave car park, Arran Island (KA27 8DX ). Grid ref. NR 897 314

(S/E) From the car park walk to the information board and turn right (North) along the footpath (Araan Coastal way sign). The path curves left, going downhill with a view of the mountains right.

Keep following the woodland on left for 2 Km as you walk downhill towards the shore. On the way, you will encounter benches to have a rest and enjoy views.

(1) Cross a gate to reach the coastline and rocky beach. From here you will find many little paths to visit hidden caves hidden into the bushes and cliffs on your left-hand side. Be careful as you wander it can be quite slippery! You will be able to find one with many cairns inside.

(2) Then a bigger cave with limited free access. After enjoying this historical King's Cave, as you go out, turn left to go through the natural arch. When you finish enjoying all those caves, carry on walking along the coastline South.

(3) At a Y-junction keep left up to go back to the car park. Otherwise, you can carry straight on along the coastline if you wish to enjoy the view a little more towards "Blackwaterfoot". You can visit Dinosaur 'Hand Prints', The Doon Fort which you see from where you stand and Drumadoon Point.

Walk uphill 360m to reach the clifftop. Carry on walking on the same path until you reach a wooden gate entering the forest.

(4) Keep walking into the woodlands as the path curves East. On the way, after 330m from the gate, spot views on an inland lake left. The path is straightforward to reach the car park and start. (S/E)
