Description of the walk

Park at the back of the car park behind the Guadalupe Chapel, which is a must-see.

(S/E) Head towards the fort, go around it on the left and reach the junction with a tarmac road.

(1) Turn left towards Arxzu, keep left at the three-way junction, ignoring the access to the property, and continue straight ahead

(2) Take the path that descends to the left and keep to the right about 40 metres further on. Continue straight ahead towards the ocean until you reach an inverted Y-shaped junction.

(3) Take the left fork.

(4) When you reach a power line, turn right and immediately join the GR®121. Head left to follow it as you approach the ocean.

(5) Continue along the coast, ignoring the tracks that branch off to either side.

(6) Turn right and stay on the main path until you reach a crossroads with another path.

(7) Go straight ahead, staying on the GR®.

(8) Leave the GR® and continue straight ahead, staying as close to the coast as possible: be careful, the path is barely visible and you have to climb up alongside the rock. Reach a viewpoint, then turn left with your back to the ocean to reach a possible picnic spot in the shade: magnificent view.

(9) Turn right onto a narrow path that slopes further to the left and reaches an intersection.

(10) Continue straight ahead until you reach a wider path.

(11) Follow this path, turning left. The path winds its way past a building and then rejoins the GR® trail you left earlier.

(12) Cross it to continue opposite, ignore three paths on the left and join the road (GI-3440).

(13) Cross it carefully, go through the gate opposite, closing it behind you, and continue up the slope.

(14) Take the small path on the left and follow it to the next gate: Pottoks are often found along this route. Take the opportunity to admire the landscape, with the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other.

(15) Go through the gate, remembering to close it behind you, and carefully descend the steep, stony path.

(16) Take the path on the left, then turn right 50 metres further on. The Guadalupe Chapel serves as a landmark. Cut across the road, walk along the picnic area and return to the car park (S/E).

An interesting hike from a geological point of view, with views of the ocean. However, I probably misread the description, as we didn't reach the summit of Jaizkibel. We covered 12 km and climbed 509 m without any difficulty. There is just one small section of three steps with a handrail, but it's really no big deal... Visit to Our Lady of Guadalupe, a very pretty church with a kiosk in front where you can buy hot drinks and religious items. There are also the remains of a military fort... In short, you need a good day to see everything.
