As the car park in Lovettaz is no longer accessible (traffic restrictions), park in the car park at the last hairpin bend before Loverraz on the road to Saint-Jean d'Arvey.
(S/E) From the car park, walk up the road for about 400 m.
(1) Take the small path on the right and head towards Lovettaz. On the left is the Doria waterfall
(2) Cross Lovettaz while continuing to climb. At the first intersection, turn left, then right at the second (at the fountain). A little further on, at the bend, follow the path that starts opposite and begins with two steps. Join a path that you should follow to the right until you reach a hairpin bend on the left where two paths start (there is a signpost).
(3) Take the second path on the right, towards the Grotte à Carret, and continue to the first intersection, where you can go to the Trou de la Doriaz on the right or the Grotte à Carret on the left.
(4) Turn left and continue along this path to the cave, ignoring the paths branching off to the right (access to the via ferrata). In dry weather (when the ground is not wet), it is possible to venture a little way into the cave. In this case, bring a head torch.
(5) From the cave, retrace your steps to the intersection, which leads to the Trou de la Doria, spotted on the way up.
(4) Access to Trou de la Doriaz via this path is risky due to slippery ground and should not be attempted with young children or pets. The end of the access route is equipped with a cable that can be used as a handrail, as well as two rungs (a mini "via ferrata" of about ten metres).
If you have a harness, you can go behind the waterfall, otherwise you will have to return the same way you came until you reach the crossroads.
(3) At this point, continue along the path on the left and follow it to the footbridge.
(6) After crossing the Doriaz, take the path on the left and return, which will take you to the Cascade de la Doriaz from below.
(6) Back at the footbridge, take the first path downhill to the left of the footbridge and follow it to an intersection.
(7) Turn right to cross the Doriaz again. This path leads directly back to Lovettaz.
(2) In Lovettaz, at the first intersection, turn left onto the road that descends to join the path and road that leads back to the car park (S/E).
). It's fine to do with a baby in a carrier, but you need to be sure-footed on the path leading to the cave. The rest of the route is easy as the path is very passable. However, the descent could be slippery in wet weather. The only downside is that you have to work hard to reach the waterfall, as there is quite a climb involved. But again, it's nothing insurmountable if you're reasonably fit. We didn't take the path under the waterfall with the baby, but it's quite accessible, although a harness is recommended (it looks very slippery). In any case, we were very happy with this beautiful hike, especially as there were few other hikers.
