Fiumedinisi walks
Fiumedinisi Castle Lookout
The Fiumedinisi castle, which serves as a viewpoint, dates back to the Middle Ages and occupied a strategic position overlooking the Nisi valley and the Ionian Sea. The Normans had restored this fortress. The castle was in a dilapidated state until 2006–2007, when its restoration was finally carried out.
Monte Veneretta from Castelmora
A round-trip hike. From the summit, the view of the ancient castles of Castelmora and Taormina is exceptional. You’ll be transported back to a medieval past when Arabs and Normans fought over Sicily.
Sartorius Mountains in the Mount Etna Massif
A gentle wander north of Etna (a few kilometres at low altitude), offering a glimpse of the terrain and its vegetation. The eruption that created the seven Sartorius crates dates back to the late nineteenth century, nature has partially returned to this area.
Etna via the south face
Ascent of Etna, on its southern face, from the town of Nicolosi Nord. The departure point is at the foot of the cable car. The hike avoids the minibus route as much as possible.
Direct ascent to the cable car station. Then on to the first crater (accessible by minibus). Please note: from this point (1), a guide is mandatory.
The return journey was made via the same route (even though I could have taken alternative routes).
The Great Crater of Vulcano
A beautiful walk in the Aeolian archipelago, north of Sicily. You climb up to the smoking crater of Vulcano and, at the top, enjoy an exceptional view of Vulcano, Lipari and the entire archipelago.
May 2024. According to two hikers, the crater is once again accessible at specific times (see photo). Thank you for this information and for the photo.
