Description of the walk

Park in the car park by the Braine-l’Alleud Town Hall, on Avenue du 21 Juillet.

(S/E) With your back to the Town Hall, walk up Avenue du Japon until you reach Avenue A. Allard. Turn right and cross over the Brussels Eastern Ring Road – R0. J

(1) Immediately afterwards, head down the road on the right – Chemin de la Maison à Tout Vent. At the bottom, take the path running alongside the ring road on the right to reach the Moulin roundabout. Stay on the same side and, walking along the grassy verge, make your way to the Chaussée de Nivelles opposite.

(2) Take the partly-paved path that starts on your left, the Chemin de Vieux Genappe. Your view extends to the left as far as the Butte du Lion. Carry on, then walk alongside a small wood until you reach a beautiful white farmhouse.

(3) Turn right onto Avenue de la Tendraie, lined with magnificent properties. You will reach the Grand’Route or Chaussée de Nivelles, the N 27.

(4) Cross the main road – be careful, as there is heavy and fast-moving traffic – and follow Rue Motte des Bergers opposite towards Rue du Berger, without actually reaching it.

(5) Just before this, turn right into the woodland to follow Rue des Hayettes. Stay on the main path at all times. Shortly before Route de Piraumont, the view opens up to the left, first onto some old trees, then onto the fields.

(6) Cross the road and take the pavement on the right. Follow it to the second roundabout.

(7) Turn left to enter the industrial estate. Carry on straight ahead until you reach a fountain and some steps. Go down the steps to the road (Avenue de Finlande).

(8) Walk about 50 metres to your right. A path, which you take to the left, crosses the grassy area and leads you to the bottom of Avenue du 21 Juillet. Head right towards the Town Hall and the car park (S/E).

Hello Arina Tomberg, and thank you for your follow-up.
As for the appeal of the walks I describe, a large part of it is simply getting out of the house and finding circular routes to stretch your legs and clear your mind. This is essential for me as someone with Parkinson’s, and since I’m planning routes for myself anyway, I might as well share them with others. And it’s true that there aren’t many points of interest apart from nature and the simple things in life around you – an open-air museum, so to speak… I wish you many more wonderful discoveries and walks.

The walking route generally follows small streets and roads, which may be a good idea during the rainy season, but despite the imposing villas, the walk isn’t particularly interesting.

Good evening and thank you for your feedback. Regarding point 2a, there are no other possibilities, so it seems pointless to me. However, as for the source of the Hain, I only discovered this recently and only mentioned it in the most recent walk that passes that point. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s any way to see it, nor do I think it’s worth the effort. That said, it’s interesting to know about it. I’ll see if I can add this point.

Route completed on 3 March 2024 in dry weather, but on a wet road.
I had trouble finding Avenue du Japon. The rest of the route was easy to follow.
Perhaps a ‘2a’ should be added: turn right onto Rue de la Neuve-cour, running alongside a small wood.
Also, it might be worth noting at point 3 that the Source du Hain is located behind the white farmhouse.

Kind regards,

Gaston Van Assche
