England Coast Path - South Bank to Redcar (Locke Park)

This section of the England Coast Path passes through the industrial areas of Middlesbrough and Redcar. Much of the steelworks is being dismantled and there is not much to see on the walk itself. The route follows the last section of the Teesdale Way (follow these signs in the absence of any for England Coast Path until you reach Coatham Marsh). The reward at the end of this walk is Locke Park.

Description der Wandertour

(S) As you exit South Bank Station, turn left going through the white gate onto the footpath. Note that the signs may say Teesdale Way, the two paths share the route at this point.
Follow this narrow footpath along the railway tracks.

(1) This footpath can be very muddy and you will be fenced in on one side either by a wire fence or pipelines then you will pass under rail and road bridges.

(2) Carry on straight until you reach a ramp which turns right over a metal footbridge under the bridge.
Once under the bridge, follow the grass path, you will have a pipeline on your left. At some point, you will pass under another bridge then climb the steps to the main road.

(3) Turn left onto the main road (Trunk Road) footpath, there is a war memorial here.
Continue walking along the road crossing the roundabout. You will see Steel House (steelworks offices) on your left. You will come to an entrance to Coatham Marsh.

(4) If you are continuing onto the Redcar section of the walk turn left here, if you are finishing your walk at Locke Park continue walking along Trunk Road to the junction of Kirkleatham Lane and Corporation Road.

(5) Finish your walk with some time in Locke Park. (E)
