Departure from the small Fontaines Bouillantes car park, accessible via a forest road that starts below Dourdan Hospital.
(S/E) Head towards the railway underpass and cross to the other side.
(1) After about 50 metres, take the main road on the left that leads to Petit Sainte-Mesme, with its beautiful houses in the woods. At the junction, turn left.
(2) Turn right at a right angle onto the aptly named Montée du Garde.
(3) A few metres after the forest house, enter the woods via a large path on the left and cross the forest road Route Antonine. Keep to the path until the slope breaks. There, turn right and stay on the ridge, with a fence on your left.
(4) Leave the "PR®" markings (do not go downhill) and turn right onto Route de la Jumelle. After about 125 metres, turn left onto Route du Cordon and follow it to the left. Cross Route de Bonchamp.
(5) Take the right fork at the junction (Route aux Lapins). Follow this road to Carrefour de Nemours. From there, you can make a detour to see two remarkable oak trees (Chêne du Breton and Chêne Saint-Louis) by taking Route de la Jumelle northwards.
(6) Take Route de Guineveau (third right) to Route du Gros Chêne and turn left.
(7) Pass in front of a lightning-struck oak tree with a beautiful information panel.
(8) Further on, turn right along the ridge and reach a beautiful viewpoint over the valley and, above all, the southern part of the forest. Join the Route du Gros Chêne for a few metres, then the Route de Marcoussis, which descends gently. Follow it to the right.
(9) At the edge of the national forest, turn right briefly and then immediately left, then 200 metres further on, turn right and rejoin the route at the intersection you passed at the start.
(1) Turn left to pass under the railway line, continue to the pond, walk along it to reach thesecond, smaller pond and return to the Fontaines Bouillantes car park (S/E).
