Description of the walk

Off the trail

(S) From the refuge, climb the steep slope via the wide, degraded path, in the opposite direction to the previous day, until you reach the large crossroads.

Yellow and red markings. GRP® Tour des Réserves.

(1) Alternative: return to the track via the same route as the previous day until you reach Collade de la Roqueta, then follow the description.
- Turn right into the forest, almost flat, onto the second track suitable for vehicles. After 1.67 km, look for a path on the left that climbs into the forest.
Wooden sign: Dona Pa. Enamelled sign: warning, as there are guard dogs.

Off the marked trail. A few cairns

(2) Leave the GRP® and climb up to the left, ignoring the yellow and red cross.

(3) (altitude 1,800 m). Continue climbing, passing a tree marked with the number 126 and a Forest Domaniale sign attached to the same tree. Continue climbing steeply until you reach an old grazing area (altitude 1,855 m).

(4) Turn left, keeping the fence, which is in very good condition, on your right. From here, begin a very steep climb, following the numerous switchbacks. After a final switchback to the left (east), you will reach a wooden passage in the recently renovated fence.

There are a few old, scattered yellow markings

(5) Cross the fence at this point and climb less steeply with the fence on your left. Make a wide curve to the right, heading south-west, and leave the forest for a short while.
Take in the vast landscape on your right to see the rest of the route ahead: Collada del Vent, Camí Ramader, Esquerdes de Rotjà are clearly visible, etc.

(6) Pass through a wet area and re-enter the forest, continuing to follow the wide curve to the right, heading south. You will come out onto a large pasture that is still in use. Be careful: there are sheep and sheepdogs. Keep a low profile.

(7) (altitude 2,095 m). Turn left and rejoin a wide grassy track, half in the forest, half open. Pass the feeding area and a small dog shelter. Do not linger here. Then descend a little and join a vast flat area: junction of tracks and paths at Collada de la Roqueta, which you passed the day before. A very beautiful spot for a well-deserved break.

White and red markings. GR® T83 - GRP® Tour du Canigou - Tour des Réserves naturelles

(8) Go through and close the large steel gate and continue opposite on the track towards Creu de la Llipodera (cross stuck in a large cairn).

(9) Climb up alongside this cross on your right. Then begin a very steep climb with a steep positive gradient. After two wide hairpin bends and a slightly less steep climb, you will come out into an open grazing area. Follow the well-marked path on the ground. Cross a summer electric fence as best you can and turn left (east) to reach the Pla Guillem refuge (altitude 2,265 m). This is a beautiful spot for a well-deserved break.

(10) Turn around and head left (south) along the wide path. Be careful not to confuse the red and white markings.

Off the marked trail

(11) Alternative route: continue along the wide path to Pla Guillem, which you passed the day before, and turn right onto the GRP® Tour du Canigou and follow the description.
- Climb up to the right, heading south, following the summer electric fence. Keep heading in the same direction. Further up, leave the fence on your left, keep heading south and join the Camí Ramader. A beautiful spot for a well-deserved break.

Yellow and red markings. GRP® Tour du Canigou

(12) Continue right along the rough track and join the Collada del Vent you passed the day before.

(13) Stay on the rough track for 2.42 km to reach Collada de Roques Blanques. Stone table and benches. Very wide and beautiful landscape as far as the eye can see. A very nice place for a well-deserved break.

(14) Cross the track and turn right, heading due west, behind the rocks that line the track. Follow the well-marked path and you will arrive at a kind of pass and a change of direction.

(15) Turn left, heading south-west and descending slightly. Pass several rocky areas and climb back up several times to finally reach the Portella des Avets (altitude 2234). A beautiful spot for a well-deserved break.

Yellow markings on small wooden posts

(16) Keep to the far left to cross the fence via a wooden passageway. From here, there is a challenging descent with a steep gradient in places. You will reach a spring in a right-hand bend (altitude 2,085 m).

(17) After quenching your thirst and filling up with water, continue the descent through some very pretty countryside. Much further down, you will reach Pla de les Eugues (altitude 1,860 m).

(18) Turn right and continue down a steep descent with a steep negative gradient and enter the forest. The slope levels out, leading to a grazing area. Turn right onto a path that is not very marked on the ground. Pass between two wooden posts that are far apart and finally arrive at Coll Baix. A very beautiful spot for a well-deserved final break.

(19) Turn left, continue flat for 40 m and begin the final descent into the forest. Watch out for roots that obstruct the descent. At the bottom, you will find the old ski trail you passed the day before. Follow it to the right and return to the Refuge des Conques car park (E).

Notes

Hike completed on 09/07/2025.
Possible in high temperatures, as it is a high-altitude hike.

Exposed after (7). So if hot weather is forecast, set off early.
_ Good paths, but not marked from to (8) and from (10) to (12).
- Significant positive gradient from (3) to (5) and from (8) to (10).
- Significant negative gradient between (16) and (E).

(10) Pla Guillem refuge maintained. Please respect the area. Take your rubbish with you.

Water at the Mariailes Refuge (S/E), fountain at the start of a return trip on the GR®10 (1) towards the forest refuge (ONF). Captured spring (17) and at the Conques Refuge (E).

Mountain equipment is necessary, as the weather can change quickly at altitude from Pla Guillem (2,283 metres) to Portella des Avets.
It is not uncommon for wind, clouds and a drop in temperature to occur within a few tens of minutes.
