Car park at the Sainte-Anne Medical Centre above Jungholtz.
(S/E) From the car park, take the wide path towards Freunstein/Croix Zimmermann, marked with a Red Ring, then a Yellow Disc (path located opposite the entrance to the Medical Centre). About 50 m further on, continue straight ahead up a slight incline (Yellow Disc and Red Ring) after crossing a wide path. After about 1.4 km, after a left-hand bend and before a wide right-hand bend, ignore the path leading downhill at the Carrefour de l’Heure.
(1) At the wide bend at the Carrefour de l’Heure, head right uphill (Yellow Ring signpost). A few metres further up, the path is also signposted with a Blue Cross and a Yellow Disc. You’ll reach a junction with a path on the left leading towards Croix Zimmermann (Yellow Disc).
(2) Take the path on the left downhill towards Croix Zimmermann and leave the wide path leading uphill. After a 700-metre descent, you will reach the Route du Col Amic.
(3) Stay on the left-hand side of the road and, 10 metres further on, you will find a path with a few steps at the start. Continue downhill until you reach the Col Amic road and the hamlet of Croix Zimmermann.
(4) Leave the wide, carriageable track heading towards Chapelle Sicurani and carefully walk up the road for 50 metres towards Kohlschlag (Red Triangle). In the middle of the bend, find a path on the left marked with a Red Triangle heading towards Cascade Kaltenbach. Follow the stream uphill and join a wide track coming from the left, then the Col Amic road again.
(5) Follow the road for a few metres before taking a wide forest track on the left towards Kohlschlag, marked with a Red Triangle. 400 metres further on, ignore the sign for Holzwasen on the right and continue along the wide forest track. At the next junction, leave the track on the left and continue to the right, following the Red Triangle (mountain bike sign). After a steep climb, you’ll emerge into the pastures below the Kohlschlag Farm Inn.
(6) Go round the Farm Inn on the left along the small tarmac road, to reach the Col Amic road a little further on. Turn right onto the road (Blue Triangle and signposted towards Holzwasen). A few dozen metres after a speed limit sign, you’ll find a path climbing up to the left, marked with a Blue Triangle and signposted towards Holzwasen. Pass the André Klutke memorial and, after climbing for about 300 m, you’ll reach a wide path.
(7) Turn right onto this path, heading downhill towards Holzwasen (Red Disc). Further on, ignore a path leading downhill to the right towards Croix Zimmermann (Red Cross) and continue along the wide path towards Holzwasen (Red Disc).
(8) At Holzwasen, ignore the first path on the right towards Soultz (Blue Cross) and continue downhill; a few metres past the refuge, you’ll find a path branching off to the right, marked with a Blue Cross (and a mountain bike sign). Take this path and, at a wide bend, join a track suitable for vehicles. Head downhill to the left (Blue Cross), ignoring the path leading uphill to the right towards the southern slope of Holzwasen. At a 90° bend, you’ll reach a junction with a path marked with a Yellow Ring and a Blue Cross.
(9) Continue downhill to the left (Blue Cross), ignoring the path on the right that climbs, to reach an intersection 200 metres further on at a place called Rocher des Sorcières.
(10) Turn right and head downhill, following the Blue Cross markings (towards Sainte-Anne). On the descent, pass a wide path leading uphill on the right, then a path on the left. Continue downhill along the wide path. Then ignore a botanical trail on the left. At the four benches arranged in a square, leave the wide path and turn left onto a path running alongside the benches. After a few metres, you’ll reach the car park.
