From Meaux to Trilport via the Dhuys Aqueduct

A varied hike from station to station, following the underground Dhuys aqueduct. This route allows you to discover the Marne first, before taking forest paths and crossing pretty villages.

Description of the walk

Departure from Meaux station (Transilien line P, between Paris-Est and Château-Thierry). Take the main exit, Place de la Gare.

(S) Continue straight ahead, cross the D603 and ignore the bridge on the right. Take Quai Victor Hugo and follow the Marne on your right.

(1) Take the Pont du Marché bridge over the Marne. On the other side, turn left and leave the Théâtre Gérard Philippe on your right. Immediately turn left to follow the Marne more closely. Go under a bridge and stay on the path along the Marne. Cross Rue des Fusiliers on your right and ignore the bridge on your left.

(2) Turn right onto Quai Charles Debœuf, following a canal. Walk along a square, then take the bridge over the canal. On the other side, turn left onto Quai du Maréchal Mortier. Turn right and follow the Marne again. At the end, turn right again and follow a canal to the Meaux lock.

(3) Cross the Meaux canal via Rue François de Tessan (D360). On the other side, go down to the left onto Chemin Bas and, after a right-hand bend, take a path on the left to follow the Marne again.

(4) Further on, rejoin Chemin Bas and follow it to the left. Further on, the tarmac gives way to a stabilised path. Continue straight ahead until you reach the tarmac again.

(5) Shortly afterwards, turn right onto Rue de la Marne. At the crossroads at the corner of a cemetery, turn left onto Chemin du Vieux Noix.

(6) At the intersection that appears shortly after, turn right onto Rue de la Lampe. Follow this street until you reach Saint-Georges Church.

(7) Then turn right onto Place de l'Église. Cross Rue Jules Blot on the left and, at the next intersection, turn left onto Rue Gambetta. After about 200 m, turn left onto Sente de la Petite Arche. Cross a stream and continue straight ahead. You will come out onto Rue Gallieni; follow it to the left.

(8) At the corner of No. 25, turn left onto Rue Raymond Marchand. Cross Rue Georges Dagorn, then turn right, staying on Rue Raymond Marchand.

(9) Take the first left, Rue du Petit Val. Cross the path of the same name on the right, then turn left onto Chemin du Petit Val.

(10) When the street turns left, turn right onto Ruelle du Pont and enter the woods. Cross a small bridge over Ru des Cygnes, then climb up the other side.

(11) At the crossroads, turn right into the woods. Further on, you will come to Ru des Cygnes.

(12) At the intersection, continue straight ahead. After about 250 m, cross the Ru des Cygnes and continue straight ahead along the edge of the woods. At the intersection (elevation 89), continue straight ahead. You will come out on Rue Henri Adolphe Joly.

(13) Follow it to the right and pass in front of the Boutigny cemetery. Just after Rue Fabre d'Eglantine, on the left-hand side, turn left onto a path. Join Rue Barois and follow it to the left for about 50 metres.

(14) Then take a path on the left, on the embankment of the Dhuys underground aqueduct. Cross a street and continue straight ahead along the path. Stay on the embankment of the aqueduct and ignore the paths branching off to the sides. Pass a wash house.

(15) Cross a small road and continue straight ahead, still following the aqueduct. At the crossroads (elevation 119), go straight ahead.

(16) At the T-junction, turn left, cross the Ru des Cygnes again and pass a pumping station. Walk north, still on the aqueduct embankment.

(17) Leave the underground aqueduct. Cross a small road and continue straight ahead. Head north-northwest between the fields. Ignore the turnings on the left and enter Trilport via Chemin de Saint-Fiacre.

(18) Cross Chemin de Travers on the right and follow Rue du Bout Cornet straight ahead. Cross Rue des Fublaines and continue opposite into Ruelle du Jard. Continue along a path and you will soon reach the Marne.

(19) Turn right and follow the river on your left. Cross Rue du Maréchal Joffre, ignore the bridge on the left and continue along the Marne on the towpath.

(20) At the roundabout, just before a railway bridge, turn right onto Rue du Bac. At the end, follow Rue du Général de Gaulle to the left. Shortly before the railway line, take the steps on the right and you will quickly reach Trilport station (S/E).

This route presents absolutely no problems with navigation: the GR 1 is signposted almost all the way along the route. However, take care at point 3, where you cross the lock; the path to take on the right is barely visible.
The section from point 4 to point 5 is of no interest, as the view of the Marne is obscured by properties. On the other hand, the second half of the circular loop, which follows the Dhuys aqueduct, is very pleasant, with rolling hills and unobstructed views.

A lovely, pleasant walk at the start of spring. Easily accessible via Line P to Meaux station. The Dhuis Aqueduct was a lovely surprise.

The first 5 km of the walk aren’t particularly remarkable, as you pass through areas with poorly maintained vegetation and surroundings. After that, from Nanteuil-Les-Meaux onwards, the route becomes pleasant, more unspoilt, more undulating and offers lovely views, especially at this time of year when many trees are in bloom. A real breath of fresh air.
An easy hike, easily accessible by train from Paris. Thanks to the person who posted it on Visorando.
