An easy Chiltern walk that rewards your efforts with some fine views across the Chiltern escarpment and across the Vale of Aylesbury. The paths and bridleways are generally clearly signed.
(D/A) If arriving by car, start from the car park in Wendover (grid ref SP868077). Exit the car park and turn left up the High Street and go straight on to pass Station Approach on the right and over the A413. If arriving by train (regular services from Marylebone), turn right out of the booking hall, go up Station Approach and at the main road turn right and cross over the railway and the A413.
(1) Just after crossing the A413 take the first footpath on the left. Entering a field take the path heading half right which leads to a lane. Turn right up the lane and take the first signed path on the left between houses. Walk half right across the first field. Do not go over the stile, instead turn right through the gate (grid ref. SP865068). Follow this bridleway uphill for about 800 metres to reach a T-junction with a bridleway (grid ref. SP858059).
(2) Turn right, soon crossing a private driveway. The path divides. Take the right hand path (a signed footpath) and after 150 metres turn left at a waymarked post into woodland. Continue until you reach a T-junction of paths with a waymark (grid ref. SP854060). Turn right here and walk for just over 200 metres to reach another footpath waymark (grid ref. SP853062). Turn left here and walk through the wood to exit at the National Trust carpark.
(3) Continue straight ahead through a wooden gate and follow the left-hand path. The path begins to descend. At this point turn right onto the Ridgeway national trail. You soon are able to enjoy some wonderful views to Chequers (below on your left) and the Vale of Aylesbury. Reaching the monument on Coombe Hill the panorama improves with Wendover Woods also coming into view.
(4) Careful navigation is needed leaving the summit area of Coombe Hill. There is a very inviting clear gravel path, which leads back to the National Trust car park. Ignore this and take the waymarked Ridgeway across grass. This provides a gradual descent towards Wendover with a number of paths providing alternative routes over Bacombe Hill. Reaching the road (grid ref. SP863074), continue straight ahead descending past cottages and houses on your left to cross the A413. Turn left for the station or continue ahead to reach the car park, which is off to your right by the Library(D/A).

A short Chilterns walk that offers some wonderful views without too much effort. The route uses generally well-marked footpaths and bridleways.

I enjoyed this walk even though I got lost due to THE CURSE OF HS2. Thrown off track at the very beginning because of being forced to go all the way around a field by the restrictions imposed by HS2 works. When three quarters of the way around this field the gate was locked so had to climb over a fence and then started to climb to enter into a wood opposite a Nature Reserve. Instead of entering the reserve I decided to climb up the wide bridle path thinking that I might come to the T-junction mentioned in the instructions but after a mile I gave up on the T junction because I saw a sign to Coombe Hill so I headed straight for the panoramic views. Lovely. The instructions were very clear to find my way back to Wendover. On reaching the road leading to the station I found it very sad to walk past some lovely cottages which had been boarded up before being demolished to make way for HS2 and could not help wishing that the HS2 route should be redirected to plough through Chequers (the PM's country pile which you can see from Coombe Hill) to convince our politicians that this new railway is an abominable project. This is not the first time that a walk has been disrupted by construction work for HS2 in the beautiful Chilterns. However, overall it was a lovely morning's ramble.

A very easy walk to follow, however, as soon as you cross the main road and turn left at the first footpath you are presented with a new pre built housing estate with the route being directed around the field rather than across.
Its not a major problem but something to be aware of.

This short walk is easily accessible by rail from London. It was beautiful on a partly sunny spring day. Dry paths, good footing, lovely wildflowers and a very nice view at the top of the hill. The description is excellent and easy to follow.
One note: your Oyster card is not valid all the way to Wendover; buy a separate return ticket before departing Marylebone station.

This walk provides stunning views and a variety of open country and woodland. On the day I walked it was very dry underfoot and with plenty of sunshine.

Worth the walk for the view alone.
Circular walk from Wendover to the pub at Swan Bottom, across fields and through woods.
This section of the walk takes you from Wendover down to Buckmoor End (where there is a pit stop and possibly a bacon sarnie!) across in front of Chequers through the nature reserve and over to The Plough at Cadsden.
This is a flat walk that takes in some of the lovely scenery of the Chiltern's countryside; including green lanes, footpaths as well as the picturesque settlement of Meadle.
Enjoy scenic views, wooded valleys and ancient parkland on this 10km circular walk through the Chilterns. Starting in Tring, the walk takes in Dancersend nature reserve and the Ridgeway National Trail.
Stroll along the waterside and look for waterbirds on this gentle 13km walk. Starting at Tring railway station, it takes in College Lake nature reserve, a section of the Grand Union Canal and three reservoirs.
This is a delightful walk from Holmer Green (located between High Wycombe and Amersham) through Chilterns woodland, fields and tracks to Coleshill All Saints Church, where there are benches in the churchyard for a picnic. Return the same way.
National Trails and Long Distance Paths crisscross the Chilterns in this area. This Circular Walk makes use of short stretches of at least five such to provide a beautiful and varied walk through Chiltern woodland, on Chiltern chalk downs with wide vistas from the scarp edge of the hills, along a stretch of the historic Grand Union Canal, and through one of the prettiest villages in Hertfordshire.
A circular loop offering heaps of views, wildlife spotting, and history preserved by the National Trust. This walk goes up and down the hills and woodlands where end of May-June you can enjoy the bluebells. Keep your ears and eyes wide open listening to the whistling red kites or spot some pheasant or squirrels.
