Park at the Col de Belle Barbe car park.
(S/E) At the signpost showing the suggested walks, with your back to the car park, take the Yellow trail which heads off to the right. Follow the sharedGR® 51 and 653A to quickly reach a Y-junction.
(1) Turn right onto the Yellow trail and theGR®. Climb gently without any difficulty along a wide path, with peaks dotting the landscape all around – it’s hard to name them based on their shapes. Continue through the Ravin des Lentisques to reach the road leading to the Col de l’Évêque.
(2) Turn left onto the path running parallel to the road to reach the Pic d’Aurelle. Walk around it to enjoy a sublime panorama.
(3) Cross the road and continue along the path to reach the Col des Lentisques.
(4) Keep straight on theGR®653A, following the sign for Col Notre-Dame. Continue through the Ravin de Cazal de Bœuf to reach a crossroads of paths, marked with red and white markings on a tree.
(5) Turn left, still on theGR®, and begin a steady climb to reach the Col de Notre-Dame.
(6) Take a path between two round signposts which begins a gentle descent alternating between stones and patches of pine needles, providing soft ground underfoot. The landscape consists of ravines and hills covered with numerous Estérilian pines. Reach the junction at Ravin de la Dent de l'Ours.
(7) Continue straight on to follow the edge of Lac de l'Écureuil, which is dry in summer and bears no clear trace of the former path. But from ford to ford, sometimes to the right, sometimes to the left of the riverbed, proceed into the Mal Infernet ravine without fear or hesitation, despite the masses of rock and pools of water. You will then reach the original crossroads you passed on the way out.
(1) Turn right and retrace your steps along the route taken on the way there to return at a leisurely pace to the Col de Belle Barbe car park (S/E).
