Col de Babaou from La Londe

The suggested routes are very quiet, even in the height of summer. The climb up the pass is via the northern slope, which is therefore relatively shaded, and even on hot days, the temperature is bearable.
The descent, via the D41 towards Borme-les-Mimosas, offers magnificent views of the ‘big blue’.

Description of the route

Route starting from La Londe-les-Maures. Park your car in the shade of the pine trees next to the recycling bins, near the Ruisseau le Pansart, on Chemin de la Decelle.

(S/E) Head east.

(1) At the roundabout, turn left towards Notre-Dame des Maures (D88). Stay on this road for approximately 13 km. Follow the Vallon de Gambet and the Ruisseau du Gaget upstream.

(2) At the T-junction, turn right towards Collobrières on the D14 (also known as the Route des Maures). Take care – this is the only stretch of this route with fairly heavy traffic.
Continue for about 6 km until you reach the hamlet of Les Bonnaux.

(3) Turn right onto the D41, towards the Col de Babaou. The climb is steady, and you’ll come across more cyclists than cars.

(4) At the pass, continue along the D41 as it crosses over to the southern slope. Head towards the Col de Gratteloup.

(5) Cross the busier D98 and carry on along the D41 towards Bormes-les-Mimosas. The road climbs slightly until you reach the Col de Caguo-Ven.

(6) Continue downhill on the D41 and enter Bormes-les-Mimosas.

(7) Drive downhill through Bormes-les-Mimosas on the D41 (Boulevard de la République then Boulevard du Soleil).

(8) At the bottom of the descent, turn right onto the D241. Shortly afterwards, go almost all the way round the roundabout and follow the D559 towards Le Lavandou.

(9) After about 300 m, turn right onto the D42a towards Le Cabasson. Stay on this road, ignoring several side roads.

(10) At the junction with the D42d, turn right, staying on the D42a, towards La Londe. Drive at a leisurely pace through the vineyards until you reach the entrance to La Londe (near Port-Miramar).

(11) Carry on straight ahead on the D42a (Avenue du Général de Gaulle) and head towards the town centre.

(12) At the traffic lights, cross Avenue Georges Clemenceau and follow Rue du Maréchal Foch (D88). Carry on straight ahead until you reach the first roundabout.

(1) Turn left onto Chemin de la Decelle (S/E).

A pleasant route, mainly used by cyclists, with the exception of the section on the Collobrières road mentioned in the description and the stretch on the D421 (between points 8 and 9) in Bormes-les-Mimosas. It’s a good way to get back into the swing of things after lockdown :-).
In hot weather, you can take a detour towards Fort de Brégançon at point 10 for a swim at Cabasson beach.
