Description of the walk

Start: Windermere Village, opposite the library along New Road. Grid ref. SD 412 983

(S/E) Start in Windermere Village and set off down New Road (A5074) towards Bowness.

(1) Opposite the entrance to Queen's Drive on the left of the road, is a footpath heading alongside a row of cottages on your right and some retirement bungalows on your left. Take this path right and continue through woodland and alongside a stream.

(2) At the end of the path, turn left and then immediately right to follow the narrow road down towards the lake.

(3) At the main road, turn right along Rayrigg Road past the Windermere Jetty Museum.

(4) After 660m or so, cross the road at the entrance to Rayrigg Hall to take a path left across the field down to the lakeshore.

(5) Turn right to follow the meandering path that continues past jetties and landing stages until you reach a boathouse just before Wynlass Beck joins Lake Windermere.

(6) Turn right to follow the track uphill (East) alongside Wynlass Beck taking time to enjoy the turbulent waters rushing by.

(7) At the road turn right for around 50 yards and then turn right again to follow the track up to the top of Queen Adelaide's Hill. Take time to admire the tremendous views towards Windermere and beyond to the South and the Langdales towards the North.

(8) Retrace your steps and at the road cross directly across to follow the path back up towards the main road running past Windermere.

(9) When you come out at the church, turn right and right again to come (almost) back on yourself to take a footpath to Birthwaite Road.

(10) At the road, turn left and after a short walk you will see a small metalled road on your right. Take this past the houses and then into the woodland. You will eventually reach the waypoint (2) where you came out of the woodland.

(2) Turn left here to retrace your steps back to the start point (S/E)
