Description of the walk

Park at the Pré de la Foire car park; the start is located near the wooden sign by the motorhome service point opposite the football pitch.

(S/E) Facing the sign, turn right, walk past the swimming pool along the road and head towards Square Stevenson and the D906, Avenue du Maréchal-Joffre, where the route joins theGR®70,GR®470,GR®700andGRP® Tour de la Margeride.

Turn right for a few metres and then immediately turn right again onto Rue du 11 Novembre 1918.

(1) Pass Chemin des Filtres on your right – you’ll use this on the way back – and continue straight on. Pass the stadium and, on leaving the town, you’ll reach a Y-junction.

(2) Take the left-hand path, towards Brugeyrolles. You’ll soon find yourself in the countryside. The road soon runs along the edge of a copse of conifers and, at the start of a left-hand bend, reaches the start of a dirt track on the right.

(3) Continue along the dirt track on the right for about 900 m until you reach a fork where you leave theGR®700.

(4) Turn right and, 500 m further on, you’ll come to a path running perpendicular to it.

(5) Turn right again and, 500 m further on, you will reach a road.

(6) Follow the road to the right for just over 2 km, leaving theGR®70,GR®470,GR®700andGRP® Tour de la Margeride.

(7) Take the road on the left between two houses (Chemin des Filtres) and continue to Rue du 11 Novembre 1918.

(1) Continue to the left and retrace your steps along the route you took on the way out to reach the Pontet car park (S/E).

This route, which is very well signposted, follows a busy GRP trail for part of the way. On the section outside the GRP, there is no one around. Although there are few views, this route is easy and pleasant. The surface is either tarmac or sandy, so there’s no risk of getting your shoes dirty.

A pleasant walk with no particular difficulties. The route offers little shade, which is a bonus when undertaken in gloomy weather, as was the case for us.
Starting and finishing in the small town of Langogne naturally leads us to explore it and enjoy its historic centre.

The route starts in town, which, as is often the case, can be tricky to find from the car park. Look out for the stadium and the swimming pool, then head between them to reach the path leading back to the car park. There you’ll see the silhouette of a donkey and a walker, which confirms that you’re in the right place on the Styvenson Trail.
