The Chemin des Droits de l’Homme from Albi to Castres

The route starts at Albi railway station, Place Stalingrad.

(S) Opposite the station, take Boulevard Leclerc until you reach a complex junction at Place de Verdun.

(1) Continuing in the direction of Boulevard Leclerc, cycle against the flow of traffic (permitted for cyclists) along Rue Croix de la Paix until it joins Rue des Pavillons, which you then follow straight on.

(2) At the end of Rue des Pavillons, turn left and continue for about 100 metres along Avenue Mistral, then at the traffic lights, turn right onto Avenue Gambetta, heading towards Castres. Go straight through two roundabouts, taking care when crossing the bridge under the ring road (entrance/exit to the Albi ring road), and continue on the D612.

(3) At^{the fourth} roundabout from the traffic lights, turn right onto the D71 towards Saliès. Continue along this road until you reach the outskirts of Puygouzon.

(4) Turn left and head for the greenway car park. Continue along the greenway and then stay on the cycle route.

(5) At the junction with the road to Lombers, carry straight on and continue along the greenway until you reach the^first road bridge.

(6) Due to the ongoing reconstruction of the greenway bridge over the D631 (duration: 6 months from September 2022 to March 2023), leave the greenway at the “Tras Darré” bridge (barriers blocking the greenway at this point).
Leave the cycle path on the right and quickly join the road. Cross the bridge and turn left onto the D41. Continue with caution to the right until you reach the D631 (bridge reconstruction works in progress, alternating traffic).

(7) At the T-junction at Trotéco, turn right onto the D631, then immediately left onto the D41, cross the Dadou and go up the small hill. At the four-way junction, turn left to rejoin the greenway a little further on.

(8) End of the short detour due to roadworks; continue along the cycle route to Castres.

(9) Cross the Aybes.

(10) At the end of the cycle route, as there is no direct cycle path along Boulevard Magenta to reach the station via the shortest route, turn left at the roundabout and follow Rue du Rey. At the end of the street, turn right onto Allées Corbière and continue for about 150 metres.

(11) Turn right onto Rue du Commandant Prat and, at the end of the street, continue along Rue Amiral Galiber; go straight on at the roundabout onto Avenue Albert^1er and reach the Tarn sub-prefecture station 500 metres further on (E).

(E) Return by coach to Albi is possible; bicycles are permitted in the luggage compartment.

(4) You can also park in the car park at the start of the cycle route, on the Albi side, 4 km from the town centre, just after the Puygouzon exit on the D71.

(10) Once you’ve dismounted, you can continue opposite on Boulevard Magenta, along the pavement for about 200 m, to reach Rue Amiral Galiber

There are stations at the start (Albi town centre) and the finish (Mazamet, the line’s terminus), but there is no direct train service between these two towns (a change is required at Saint-Sulpice-sur-Tarn); however, the Lio coach service provides a connection.
