Description of the walk

Start from the car park at the foot of the Brenthonne bell tower, on the edge of the D903. N.B. The bell tower is located about 200 m east of the church, which does not have a bell tower.

(S/E) Head south and away from the D903. At the end of the car park, turn left onto Chemin d'Avuly and take a well-marked footpath on the right-hand side of the road. Keep a school on your right, then a football stadium, and climb gently up to the entrance to Avuly Castle.

(1) Continue straight ahead. You will come to the D35; turn right and follow it (be careful, the shoulder is narrow).

(2) At the triangular crossroads, turn left towards Dugny. Cross Impasse de la Grangée on your left. You will come out onto Route de Dugny (C12), follow it to the left and you will soon reach another intersection.

(3) There are two options here:
- for a shorter version, turn right onto Route de Dugny and immediately turn left onto this road. Ignore a turn on the left and rejoin the main route at point (5),
- otherwise, as shown on the map, keep left and descend slightly. Cross Impasse de la Ferme on the left and pass the greenhouses. Continue along a path and cross a stream. Ascend slightly and reach an intersection.

(4) Continue straight ahead and soon turn left onto the path. Ignore a turn-off on the left, then turn right onto the path. At the crossroads, turn left and you will quickly reach a T-junction.

(5) Then follow Chemin de la Cascade to the left and leave the village. Head uphill towards the south, enter a wood and you will soon reach a crossroads.

(6) Then turn left towards the waterfall (do not cross the stream on the right). Climb up to a three-way junction.

(7) Keep left (do not cross the stream here either). Continue climbing until you reach the foot of the waterfall.

(8) Return along the same route in the opposite direction until you reach the first houses in Dugny. Cross two streets on the right, then take Chemin des Petits Jardins on the left.

(3) Turn left, then immediately right onto Chemin de la Grangée. Follow the same route as on the way there to reach the bell tower in Brenthonne (S/E).

If you set off from Brenthone, the road journey isn’t particularly picturesque. You can start further upstream, but there are very few places to park. And in that case, the walk is short. What’s more, the locals might not want to see lots of cars in this quiet spot... Is that why some of the signposts have been removed and left lying in the tall grass? A very pretty spot nonetheless.
