Description of the walk

Park in the Plauzat cemetery car park, at the crossroads with a cross and war memorial.

(S/E) From the crossroads, head north-west with the cemetery on your left. Go straight ahead at the next intersection to cross a recent housing development and, when the street turns right, walk straight ahead on the grass to reach a path.

(1) Continue along the path opposite. Stay on this path until you reach a T-junction, about 2 km further on.

(2) Turn right and join a road, following it to the right for about 200 m.

(3) Take a path on the left, a few metres after an electricity pylon. Follow this path until you reach a group of technical buildings with machinery scattered around (large shack).

(4) Take the path on the right, just in front of the large shed. At the T-junction, turn right and then, 100 m further on, turn left, walking alongside the greenhouses on your left (flower plants for sale). You will arrive at the D978, a very busy road.

(5) Walk about 20 metres along the road on the right and cross very carefully to follow a wide path heading east. After about 100 metres, turn right onto a grassy path. Follow it until you reach a road (D630).

(6) Follow it carefully to the right, cross a bridge over a stream, then immediately turn right onto a path that runs alongside the stream. Continue straight ahead on this path until you reach a wide path.

(7) Follow it to the left. Cross the D630, continue straight ahead, then cross another road and continue straight ahead.

(8) Turn right onto the path that runs alongside the sports fields on your left. At the fork in the road, keep left.

(9) Ignore the street on the left, Chemin de Coude, and continue straight ahead to enter the village of Plauzat via Rue de la Treille. Shortly before an intersection, you will find the Fontaine Notre-Dame fountain on the left. Turn right onto a vaulted alleyway to reach a square with the Fontaine de la Vigne fountain. Turn left to reach the main street, cross it and follow it to the left until you reach the crossroads marked with a stone cross.

(10) Turn right onto Rue du Terrail. Turn onto the first street on the right, Rue des Gras Bordeaux, then immediately take a small street on the left. At the T-junction, turn left to rejoin Rue du Terrail at a stone cross and the Saint-Austremoine Fountain.

Follow Rue du Terrail to the right. Further on, pass another stone cross on the right at Rue Saint-Jean. Walk to the left to the Saint-Jean Fountain, then retrace your steps and continue along Rue du Terrail, which turns right and leads to the Fontaine-lavoir de la Coste. Go down to the wash house, then climb back up the street via a few steps.

(11) Turn right onto Rue Saint-Roch, then take the second street on the right, Rue de Laugane. At the corner of No. 9, turn left onto a discreet alleyway (Rue Pinel) and you will come to Rue des Gras Bordeaux. Continue left, follow the street as it curves to the right and you will come to a busier street, Avenue Guyot Dessaigne. Cross over to reach the square opposite and the fountain-wash house on the square.

(12) Turn right onto the square to discover the Fontaine aux Faunes fountain. Then take Petite Rue Megemont, directly opposite the fountain and on the other side of Avenue Guyot Dessaigne. At the next intersection, turn left, leaving Rue Megemont on your right. You will arrive at Rue du Foirail. Follow it to the left to pass below the château-mairie.

Just after, notice the covered wash house on your right. Continue straight on Rue du Foirail, then turn left onto Avenue Guyot Dessaigne at the corner of the church. About thirty metres further on, you will see the beautiful Fontaine aux Lions fountain.

(13) The entrance to the church is at this point. The Romanesque building is well worth a visit. With your back to the fountain, cross Avenue Guyot Dessaigne and follow Rue Sainte-Agathe, which is slightly to the right. Ignore a street on the left and you will come to a crossroads with a stone cross, near the cemetery car park (S/E).

Limagne certainly does not offer the most beautiful landscapes in this region. The hike provides views of the cultivated plain and surrounding villages. Paths lined with walnut trees, a few poplar groves. Just the opportunity to stretch your legs before visiting the village, a former fortified village that has preserved a rich architectural heritage.

This hike is particularly interesting for its architecture, as the view is beautiful but not very varied. It should have been easy as there is little elevation gain. However, it had rained shortly before and we had to wade through mud throughout the entire route. What's more, the soil is very unusual, heavy and very sticky. It spoils the pleasure of walking with 1 kg of mud on each foot and spending your time trying unsuccessfully to get rid of it. Only to be attempted in very dry weather!

A lovely walk in "the plain" around Plauzat (virtually no elevation gain), the countryside was magnificent at the end of spring, with beautiful, even panoramic views. A superb path lined with walnut trees at the start (however, a housing development is being built at the start, and the IGN map - which shows a path - dates from 2017...). Walking alongside cultivated fields, we didn't meet anyone during the entire 9 km circular route. About 4 km from the start, we had a picnic on a fallen tree trunk in the only plot planted with tall trees and therefore shaded. The rest of the route lacks places to stop in the shade. A path lined with cherry trees on the outskirts of Plauzat.

Very beautiful hike. Beautiful views all along the route.
At the end of the hike in Plauzat, there is a very detailed route about the fountains and wash houses (worth seeing).
Do not do in very hot weather.
