Boyne Valley Camino

Walk along the route of the Boyne Valley Camino. On the homeward bound leg, I detoured into the Tourist Information Office in Oldbridge Estate for another official stamp. However, if you don't wish to collect stamps, you can instead continue on the waymarked route and save yourself approximately 1.4km! However, there is a coffee shop inside the walled garden nearby, where a weary walker might wish to take a break.

Notes

There are plenty of car parks in the area around St. Peter's Church. Haymarket Car Park and Drogheda Town Centre both have indoor parking and are the nearest places to leave a car before starting on your walk.

Some of this route is on busy roads, but for most of those stretches, there will be a pavement. Most of the road sections are along quiet country roads. The wooded areas are very peaceful with occasional views across the Boyne Valley. There are a number of historical sites along the route worth taking time to examine closely: Townley Hall woods, Mellifont Abbey, Oldbridge Estate and St. Peter's Church are the highlights, but there is much of interest in the town of Drogheda.

The Boyne Valley Camino website contains a detailed guide to the route on the Map & Guide page.

Visit the Camino Society Ireland website for the Camino passport.
