Description of the walk

Parking is available near the Petit Tournon chapel.

(S/E) Take the D558 to the left for about 300 m.

(1) At the bend, leave the main road to the right and follow the sign for the Voie Royale.
Follow the road branching off to the left until you reach a tree-lined square. Cross this square and take Rue de la Varenne.

(2) 50 m further on, turn right into Rue de Champgrand. Leave the hamlet via a covered path (you may need to wade across a small seasonal stream). Follow this path until you reach some steps.

(3) Once you have descended these steps, turn left and follow the track as it begins to climb.
Follow the track as it gradually turns into a rutted path and then a trail that continues to climb up the hill. Don’t hesitate to turn around to enjoy the view of Villeneuve-de-Berg.
Follow this path until you reach a track at the top of the hill.

(4) Take the track on the right. You have arrived on the Voie Royale. This track begins to descend whilst running alongside a pine forest on the left. You will soon be able to enjoy a beautiful, unobstructed view of the Monts d’Ardèche and beyond! You will arrive at a large clearing.

(5) Just before a 90° bend in the track, head into the meadow opposite. Look for a path (hard to see) that starts to climb alongside a clapa (pile of stones) on the right. Follow this path until you reach a track.

(6) Take the track to the right and continue until you reach the tarmac road.

(7) Follow the tarmac road to the right and go down this road until you reach a concrete EDF post on the left-hand side of the road.

(8) Take the small path that branches off to the left of the road at the concrete post.
Then rejoin the road which goes straight down to the Petit Tournon chapel, the starting point of this walk (S/E).
