Loop from Montserrat Monastery to the Mont St Jeroni viewpoint

A magnificent loop starting from the famous Montserrat monastery to the St Jeroni viewpoint. There are many views along the way. You will pass by the main points of interest in the area.

The trail is well maintained but requires good walking shoes as there is a significant elevation gain.

Parking at the monastery is charged by the day but there are no other options.

Description of the walk

Once parked, walk up the road to the square in front of the basilica.

(S/E) Then continue up the left-hand side towards the St Miquel viewpoint.

(1) Enjoy the view of Montserrat, but don't worry if it's very crowded; you'll get a much better view later on. Continue along the path to the upper funicular station.

(2) At the bottom of the station, take the path on the right and follow it along the cliff. Continue along the path, which is easy to follow. Enjoy the view from the Montserrat viewpoint.

(3) Continue along the path towards St Jeroni.

(4) At the fork, take the path that continues uphill! You will pass the St Jeroni chapel.

(5) Not very interesting, but you're almost there... Continue climbing up to the St Jeroni viewpoint.

(6) A 360° view awaits you there. It's time to head back down the same path to the fork.

(4) Leave the familiar path and take the path on the left (towards the monastery). Reach the monastery via the path through the woods that runs alongside a stream. There is a drinking fountain at the bottom of the path.

You deserve to stop for a moment on the square in front of the basilica to reminisce about this beautiful hike. (S/E)

Notes

Montserrat Monastery is very busy. It is advisable to go early in the morning or late in the day. However, once you are on the trail, you will find fewer and fewer people. The trail is very easy and well maintained. Once you are on it, it is difficult to get lost, but there are no trail maps available at the monastery. The first map is located at the upper station of the St Joan funicular railway.

There are free toilets at the monastery and at the funicular station.

Drinking water is available at the monastery and, most importantly, there is a drinking fountain on the way back to the monastery.
