Molières Circular Loop

Park in the lake car park. The walk around the lake can be done at the start or end of the route, as you prefer, but it is not described here.

(S/E) Take the small road opposite the lake entrance as far as a house dating from 1910. On the left, before the fountain, follow the small path uphill to Molières: as you go, look out for a terracotta-brick barn and a red-brick well. Once in the village, turn right onto Rue de la Heath: at the^first junction, you’ll see a magnificent gate, the “Soudelhado”. Turn left opposite the town hall.

(1) Walk up Rue de la Mairie (half-timbered houses with original shop fronts) to reach Place des Tilleuls, where you’ll find the ruins of the old tower known as the ‘Tower of the English’ or the ‘Clock Tower’. Head back down via Chemin des Fossés, then turn right onto the D29 (Route de la Gare) and continue for about 150 metres. Take the path leading down to the left: you’ll see the church on your left. Follow this path, which soon bends to the right and joins the D83.

(2) Turn left. At the crossroads, carry straight on towards Lafrançaise-Puycornet.

(3) Head up the path on the left, passing between the buildings at La Borde Basse, to reach the D20.

(4) Follow it uphill for a short distance, keeping to the left, then head right towards the houses at Rouquet de Favols. Go down the path on the right before you reach them. At Couture, leave the farm on your right and turn left through the fields to reach a tarmac road.

(5) Follow this road to the left for about 150 m, then turn left to follow the path that runs past Pomtet. You’ll walk along a sort of covered ditch where you’ll see the ruins of an old sheepfold. At Paradis, take the tarmac road opposite and join the D959.

(6) Turn right, continue for about a hundred metres, then turn right onto the old Roman road.

(7) When you reach the tarmac road, cross over to discover the Pont du Vert about a hundred metres further on.

(8) Retrace your steps.

(7) Turn right to join the D959. Cross it carefully and continue straight on towards Saint-Christophe.

(9) Just before a terracotta-brick cottage, turn left and head uphill. Walk past the mast and you’ll reach a three-way junction with a house in the middle.

(10) Go down the path on the left, go round the campsite by turning left twice, then return to the lake car park (S/E).
