Start from the car park at Plancher-les-Mines Town Hall. Don't miss the magnificent calvary in front of the town hall.
Yellow ring markings
(S/E) Leaving the town hall car park, turn left and follow the main road, Rue des Vosges (D16). Pass two wash houses.
(1) To leave the road for a while, ignore the markings and turn left onto the path that goes around the cemetery, then continue on the D16.
(2) At the bend, leave the D16 and turn left onto Chemin du Gros Chêne.
(3) Leave the tarmac road and follow a path lined with rocks. Follow this path, keeping alongside the Rahin, to reach the Refuge de Saint-Antoine, built of grey stone.
(4) Take the path on the left to reach the Cascades de la Goutte des Saules waterfalls.
Yellow disc markings
Climb up to the right of the waterfall via a very steep path, which is protected by barriers in places and offers magnificent views of the waterfalls and the Rahin valley.
Continue until you reach a forest road.
(5) A sign points to the "Grotte de Saint-Antoine". Follow the forest road to the right for about 450 metres and you will find a trailhead on your left (be careful not to miss it).
(6) Follow this path, which climbs steeply and winds its way up the mountainside to the cave. It is a very pretty path with beautiful views of the Planche des Belles Filles.
(7) From the cave, retrace your steps to the fork indicating the "Grotte de Saint-Antoine".
(5) Follow the forest road towards theGR®59and the Belvédère de Saint-Antoine.
(8) Continue along the forest road (you can take the path on the right and rejoin the road further up).
Go around a hairpin bend to the left and continue for about 100 metres.
(9) Turn right again onto an unmarked path before crossing the river to avoid the zigzags of the forest road. This path runs alongside the Goutte des Saules.
(10) At the forest road, turn right and temporarily leave the yellow disc markings to follow this road uphill. Cross the Goutte des Saules, pass a hairpin bend and then a valley, and you will soon reach the start of a path on the left (GR®59).
Red and white markings
(11) Follow the path on the left, continuing uphill. Pass the Col sans Nom and continue along the north-facing side of the mountain.
(12) Along the path, on the descent, you will see one of Louis XV's boundary stones on the left, 20 metres above the path.
(13) Arrive in Belfahy at the ski resort car park. Immediately turn left to join the hiking trail that runs alongside the village, offering beautiful views of it. Continue along this trail, which winds through the beech forest and joins the D98. Leave theGR®59and turn left.
Yellow rectangle markings
(14) After a few metres of descent, take the path on the left that descends through the fir trees. After passing an abandoned house on the left, continue downhill, keeping to the left on a fairly steep and stony path. You will reach Plancher-les-Mines. Cross a house courtyard to reach Rue des Vosges. Turn right until you reach the town hall and its car park (S/E).
