Forêt Plate and Vallée des Cannes Circular Loop

Set in the heart of the magnificent Déva Park, this route is a slightly shorter alternative to the T3 trail (14 km), covering exactly 10 km. There are a multitude of paths in this area, so many other variations are possible. This route offers two stunning panoramic views: one over the Forêt Plate and another over the Vallée des Cannes further to the north.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the start of the trails. Please note: the Domaine de Déva is free to use but is only open from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm.

(S/E) Head towards the first fitness equipment stations and take the path that branches off to the right as you come from the car park. The trail then descends a small slope on your right.

(1) Take the hairpin bend to the left and follow the path up the hill on your left: first panoramic views of the Forêt Plate. Follow the climb to the next junction.

(2) Turn left again. After this first, open section, the path descends into the heart of the Forêt Plate.

(3) Turn left before the sign, then take the path on the right a few metres further on.

(4) Repeat the same procedure and you’ll come out onto a well-cleared path, which you must not take.

(5) Instead, cross this path and follow a small, less visible path on the left. This turns right, crosses another path and veers left, rejoining it about 200 m further on. Head right until you reach the junction at a bend.

(6) Keep to the right and head for the next junction.

(7) Keep to the right once more, then follow the trail signs as you cross several other tracks, taking a first bend to the left followed by a second to the right. After a sharp change of direction, the path reaches a barely visible junction.

(8) Take the path that climbs straight ahead to the right before the line of trees. There’s a short, slightly steep climb on this section, but it’s over quickly. Once at the top, head left, following the fence and enjoying the unobstructed view across the whole park.

(9) Turn left, going through the gap in the fence, and leave the trail route. Head back down towards the south, staying on the main track, to return to one of the junctions you passed on the way out.

(7) Turn right and come to another fork in the path that you also passed on the way out.

(6) Turn right again to rejoin the original route and follow it to the right to return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Access to the Domaine de Déva is free but is only permitted between 7 am and 7 pm. The main road is tarmac and very well maintained, so it’s easily accessible even in a city car.

The paths are very wide and very well maintained, with no particular difficulties.

There’s plenty of shade along the route, but a few kilometres are on open ground, so do make sure you bring sun protection and, of course, water.

Up to the point (9), follow the trail markings, specifically the one marked No. 3. The signs are very comprehensive and easy to follow, but you’ll sometimes see that only the T5 is indicated on some of them. Don’t panic – it’s the same route for the entire section we’re interested in. You’ll very quickly find the T3 indicated on the following signs.
