Circular route starting from Lac de Longemer via the Tête de Grouvelin

Hike starting from Longemer towards the Géromois peaks, downhill skiing, then descending towards Lac de Lispach and the cross-country ski trails. Climb back up via the Roche des Vieux Chevaux viewpoint, then pass by Lac de Longemer and ascend towards the opposite slope of the Roche de Boulard.
A fairly challenging hike.

Description of the walk

Park at the junction of Route du Lac and Route de la Plage; the car park is on the right.

(S/E) Turn right and follow the road uphill, marked with a Blue Disc. Reach the junction with a footpath.

(1) Turn left onto the path marked with a Green Ring. Continue along the winding path to reach Roche Toussaint.

(2) Continue uphill to the junction with the Route Forestière (RF) des Relles Gouttes.

(3) Turn left onto this road for about 400m, then turn right onto the path marked with a Yellow Triangle. You will reach the Abri Saint Jacques.

(4) Turn left onto the RF de Saint-Jacques, marked with a Green Disc. Follow a gentle descent to the junction with the Chemin de Saint-Jacques.

(5) Turn right here and follow theGR®533marked with a Green Rectangle to reach the Tête de Grouvelin junction.

(6) Leave theGR® and take the path on the right to the summit of Tête de Grouvelin and its orientation table.

(7) Head down to the left, following the Green Rectangle (Green-White-Green) markings. You’ll reach the lower station of the Les Hêtres ski lifts. Continue to the left until, 300 metres further on, you come to a crossroads.

(8) Keep left, following the Blue Ring markings. Pass close to some spring water collection points, leave the Blue Ring markings and turn right twice to reach a shelter.

(9) Take the track on the left at almost a 180° angle, cross the hamlet of l'Enclos and then reach the Chajoux reservoir.

(10) Cross the stream via the footbridge, follow the D34 to the left for a few metres. Leave it quickly to turn right onto the path and reach the Chemin de la Tenine. Take this to the left and reach the shooting range at the Lispach biathlon stadium.

(11) Stay on the Green Rectangle-marked path running parallel to a road and emerge at the Lac de Lispach car park.

(12) Walk along the right-hand side of the lake and, at the next car park, take the path marked with a Green Ring. Pass an old mine. At the next junction, continue straight ahead following the Red Triangle markings to reach the summit of the Roche des Vieux Chevaux. Enjoy the stunning view of Lake Longemer from here.

(13) Begin the descent with great care, as this descent is very dangerous because:
- thefirst section is slippery due to the eroded earth,
- thesecond section consists of loose scree.
Finish this descent at the Camping les Jonquilles.

(14) Turn right and follow the lake; after a circular bend, you’ll reach the large farmhouse at the Grange Mauselaine campsite.

(15) Take the path on the right that leads uphill to reach the D417. Cross it with great care. Then head left along the road for about a hundred metres and turn right onto the Roche Boulard forest track. Reach the summit. Enjoy the beautiful view of the Longemer valley from here too.

(16) Begin the final descent by following the Blue Disc markings to rejoin the D417.

(17) Cross it with great care, follow the path, then cross the D67, taking care here too. Continue along the lake and you will come to the Chapelle Saint-Florent.

(18) Continue along the lake to quickly reach the beach car park (S/E).

A lovely walk that was made even more enjoyable by the snow falling as we reached the top

A lovely walk, though there is no path on the right between points 8 and 9, and the distance is underestimated (a good 25–26 km). Beautiful views.

Hello!!
There’s been a change to the route in the first forest section after the boulder, as the wire fence that used to stop you going straight on – and meant you had to go round it uphill – has been removed… whether temporarily or not remains to be seen!!
Otherwise, everything’s fine!!
