(S/E) Coming from Xonrupt-Longemer, park on the left-hand side of the road at the end of the "Belle rive" campsite
(1) Take the path opposite, along the edge of Lake Longemer and the road (RD67a) opposite the car park. Please note that there are two possible starting points, indicated by signs on the wooden safety barrier and a green strip on the ground. We chose the second one.
Climb the path and turn left 70 m further on.
Follow this path, taking care not to slip on the stones. Cross a scree slope and you will come to a path on the right (be careful not to continue along the path on the left).
(2) Turn right where the sign indicates that access to the boule du diable is not recommended via this path (after using it, we didn't understand why). If you get lost, another route marked "Abri de Lispach - Grotte du Cuivre" is also possible.
The wet climb takes you 100 m further to an intersection.
(3) Turn left at this intersection. Follow this ascending path, which is not always well marked, through wet areas to reach a slightly wider path. Take it slightly to the left. The path goes around the highest point of the Devil's Ball. When you reach a well-marked path coming from the Col des Faignes on the left, turn right to quickly reach the Devil's Ball after a short climb.
(4) Leave the boule on your left and continue straight ahead downhill on the left. The path passes in front of the chaume de Fachepremont on your right and leads to a large crossroads.
(5) Take the path that descends to the left for 250 m.
(6) A small path descends to the right for 80 m, then to the left to the lake.
(7). Continue the hike to the right to start the tour of the lake.
(8) Cross the reservoir (source of the Chajoux) and take the road on the left. At the end of the loop, after the ski school, take the path that climbs up in front of you, leaving the forest road on your left.
(6) Take the small path that descends to the left (if you are feeling tired, you can continue straight ahead) and at the end, climb up to the right towards the old copper cave. The entrance to the cave is relatively low, but the sign indicates that it is safe to enter with a torch, of course.
Leave the cave via the small path above it to rejoin the main path you took on the way there.
(5) At the crossroads, leave the path you took on the way there on your right and continue straight ahead until you reach the Vieux Chevaux rock.
(9) Beautiful view of Lake Longemer. With the rock behind you, turn right and take the steep, slippery descent to the road you started on and the car park (S/E).
