Circular starting from La Roque-Alric

The route passes successively through two peaks near La Roque-Alric to reach Le Barroux, then returns via Le Devès. It mainly consists of paths through the woods, some of which are steep, but unfortunately there is a section of tarmac road after Le Barroux.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the entrance to Chemin Saint-Michel, at the top of the village.

(S/E) Follow theD90A towards Le Barroux for about 50 metres and turn right at the La Roque Alric sign onto a gravel path that climbs perpendicular to the road. Follow it for about 700 metres, go through an old gate and you will come to a chain blocking the path with a no entry sign.

(1) Take the path on the right, cross a stream and then turn left. Continue through the undergrowth for about 200 metres to reach the edge of the ridge. Turn left, then after 50 metres, take a path on the right that climbs steadily to the summit of Carabelle (cairn).

(2) Continue in the same direction, this time downhill. At a flat area and a juniper grove, turn right. Continue south-east on the downhill path, going around fallen trees, then come out onto another path that runs along the ridge and climbs north-east. At the foot of a more imposing cliff, the path splits. Take the right-hand path southwards and after 100 metres you will reach Chemin du Pontillard. Follow it to the right until you reach the Le Pontillard signpost.

(3) Go straight ahead on a dirt track, then 150 metres further on, turn right and start descending towards the south-west. After 400 metres, at a flat section, find a small path on the left.

(4) Take this path, cross a very wet area (not in summer) and then climb slightly. Cross the Vallat du Rioulas and continue to the ridge.

(5) Take the path on the left, marked in blue, which follows the plateau and then climbs northwards to the Graveyron ridge. Ignore the paths on the left and stay on the southern slope to reach the summit of Graveyron.

(6) Switch to the northern slope, follow the summit ridge and reach a road at the bottom of the descent.

(7) Turn left, then immediately right and continue for about 50 metres. Take the path on the left at the edge of the woods. Follow it for 200 metres to the Falque Pié Laugier signpost.

(8) Follow the GRP® des Dentelles de Montmirail, marked in yellow and red, in the direction of the Falque lock. Be careful here: take the left turn towards Château du Barroux, as the path on the right is private. After about 100 metres, turn right then left to follow the marked path that runs alongside private property. Cross the Ruisseau du Vallat de la Tuillère stream and take the path that climbs to the left to the Barroux cemetery.

(9) Be careful from here on: stay alert as the hike follows tarmac roads used by vehicles. Continue straight ahead and you will come out onto Avenue de Verdun. Walk up this road and then turn left onto Chemin Carré. You will then reach the Château du Barroux signpost. Turn left onto theD90A, which climbs slightly, and you will reach the junction with Route de Suzette.

(10) Turn right, cross the La Lause signpost and continue to the Les Plantiers signpost.

(11) Turn left onto Chemin de Pied Porcher and follow it for 1,200 metres. After a right-hand bend followed by a hairpin bend, when you see a sign for "Impasse", take the path on the left.

(12) Follow this path uphill and after 600 m you will reach a fork.

(13) Take the path on the right (the path on the left goes up to Devès) and continue slightly downhill in the same direction for about 600 m, leaving the paths on the right. At the bottom of the slope, the path joins a wider track. Follow it to the left. After a right-hand bend, it joins a wide stony track. Follow it to the right-northwest. After about 500 m, you will come to Chemin de l'Envers, which you should follow to Chemin Saint-Michel and the car park (S/E).

A very beautiful hike, but I don't think it's feasible without a GPS. Between Le Graveyron (where there is a nice orientation table that is not mentioned in the description) and the paved road to La Roque-Alric, for example, there are many opportunities to get lost. It's a shame that the description is not more precise, because the paths and landscapes are beautiful.

A beautiful hike, but difficult to find your way, especially on the way back after Le Barroux. We couldn't find the path mentioned after 1,200 metres at the exit of a hairpin bend, so we had to return via the D90A tarmac road, which we managed to reach by chance.
Towards the summit of Le Graveyron, there are many broken and fallen pine trees in the middle of the path.
Overall, this route lacks signposting.
