Between the countryside and the sea, leaving from Billiers.

A pretty walk between the countryside and the seaside. The Pointe de Penn Lann stands guard over the Vilaine Estuary.

Description of the walk

Access: Take the N165 between Nantes and Vannes. When leaving Muzillac, follow the D5 in the direction of Billiers.
There are many places to park in Billiers around the church. Toilets are available. You will follow a PR®, although its waymarking is difficult to find.

(S/E) Behind the church take Grande Rue towards Bréhondec. Follow along the tarmacked road until you reach a fork with a cross in the middle of it.

(1) Turn right and continue straight ahead on the dirt path. Cross through the area of warehouses and follow the tarmacked path on the right.

(2) Continue to the left on the seldom used tarmacked road. Go past the wastewater treatment plant on the right and then the hamlet of Kervail. 300m later, turn right and continue on to the fork with a cross.

(3) Follow the tarmacked path for about 500m and just before Le Bourg L’Étang, turn left onto the farm track until you reach the place called Guernehué.

(4) At the farm, turn left for 100m then right and continue through the pine forest until you reach the coastal path (GR® 34-39).

(5) Follow the coastal path up to Pointe de Penn Lann. Pass the Dolmen, the Crapaud (6) and then Grays Cairn (7).

(8) Go past the front of the hotel and re-join the coastal path so as to go around Pointe de Penn Lann, and then go past Billiers Port. The levy along from the Billiers seaside gîte is closed with barricades.

(9) Go over the barricades and follow along the levy. At the end of this first section, there is a slightly difficult section to cross further up from the seaside gite. Follow the path along the marshes and, at the junction with the D5, turn right to return to the church (S/E).

The route is not always well signposted and there is a risk of going in the wrong direction (particularly at marker 2).
That said, it's a lovely walk, past the industrial estate, and a very pleasant one along the coast and lan Point.

Nice little hike, but the part described as impossible to do is doable for good walkers.

It's a lovely walk that we did, but starting from Le Moustoir. At Penn Lann, the levee along the estuary has been impassable for several years; you have to walk along the road but the route is safe with a section
reserved for pedestrians. From Billiers, the route through the countryside has been signposted and there are no difficulties in joining the coastal path.

It's a shame that the circuit is practically all tarmac before you reach the coast...

Hiking in July, so the path is very busy. First part not very interesting (tarmac road).... compensated by the interest of the coastal path. Itinerary changed after Penn Lann (you have to follow the GR).
All in all, it was a good time

First part on road and country lane without much interest ... but not unpleasant.
2nd more important part on the coastal path, very nice.

hike completed on 30 May 2021
the first part in the countryside is a bit monotonous (up to point 4) but the rest is very good. When you join the GR (point 5), don't hesitate to make a return trip (about 1 km) to the right as far as Port Nat (mentioned on the map), the site is very pretty.
At point 9, it was not possible to walk along the estuary (metal barriers had been added and no path was visible).
All in all a pleasant walk

A multifaceted walk combining hedged farmland, coastal features with beautiful panoramas and culture. Passing through the fences seems inappropriate (very difficult to walk on) and a bit contrary to the ethics (ticks) of the hiker in his constant concern to respect others. I can't wait for a new route to complete this superb walk.

The section between Pen Lann and the town of Billiers can be done by crossing the barriers, but is that really wise? In spring, isn't this a nesting area for birds?
You need to pay attention to the section at the end of Billiers towards Bourg l'Etang; there may be some confusion given the number of paths.
Otherwise a lovely walk with beautiful views over the Vilaine estuary.

Thank you for a lovely walk.
However, from point 1 to point 4, the tarmac road isn't very interesting, but for a round trip there's probably no other choice...!!!!
From the pine forest onwards, on the other hand, we had a blast.
Beautiful views, not forgetting the toad dolmen, the Grays cairn, the beaches and the way back along the marsh....!!!!
Beautiful coastline.
Thanks again.

We did this hike backwards from point 8.
We couldn't find the way back from point 1 to DA and then to the D5 junction.
Not a very exciting route...

This walk is mainly an opportunity to set yourself a goal. The exit from the town and the path to the Vilaine are a bit tedious. After that, it's a pleasant stroll along the estuary to Penn Lann in a fairly classic landscape and then back to the start along the main road... Overall, a positive assessment.

despite the minor problems of understanding the description of the route, the walk is superb.
It should be noted that the last section (GR34-GR39) after the port is accessible halfway along the D5 road. Access to the GR is on the left after the crossroads leading to the Domaine de PRIERES.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to give your opinion.

As the waymarking is not the responsibility of either the author or Visorando, the term "map route" does not mean assessing the waymarking, but rather the conformity of the route as shown on the map with the reality on the ground.

A+

A pleasant walk between countryside and coastal paths. Signs are hard to find from Billiers.
