(S/E) From the main entrance to Higher Trapp, walk cautiously down the hill to the crossroads and turn left. Walk along this lane past the sawmill, and then on your left you will find the footpath signposted after 300m or so.
(1) Over the stone stile and across the corner of the field to the next stile, continue straight across the next field, crossing over a track and straight over the field to enter woods over stone steps in the wall.
(2) The path continues through this beautiful old beech wood to a kissing gate on the other side. Continue straight across the next field to a gate between buildings. Through this gate, take the track to the left and continue to the stile on your left after the house.
Follow this path straight up the hill and take the right-hand gate at the next boundary. Continue straight up the hill keeping the trees and old wall to your left and at the top, continue straight on, using the small gate to the left. Continue along with the wall on your right and the path will reach the road (Back Lane).
(3) Cross the road and, ignoring the footpath sign, continue straight on to the right of the fence ahead, which is a much drier option. Cross the next stile over a fence and then just continue straight on along a meandering path down the hill to Sabden.
(4) After the path meets the road at the start of the village, continue down through the village taking the bridleway just before the bridge over the river. (At this point you may choose to deviate a while to look around the village and then return to this point)
Continue along this next track in a straight line for some way, and when the track veers right to the farm just continue straight on, across the field, which eventually leaves the fence on your right veering slightly to the left across the final field. After you have passed through the stile/gate, the path joins a tarmac drive which you follow up the hill to the road (Back Lane).
(5) When the drive meets the country lane, turn right, and you will find the next path along on your left. Taking this path, continue straight up over the hill and down to meet another tarmac drive. Turn right, and walk through the farm, following the road down the hill, passing New Hall House.
(6) When the tarmac drive eventually meets the lane, turn left and walk (North-East) along the lane until you reach the cross roads. Almost back now walk cautiously back up the hill to the Higher Trapp Hotel. (S/E)
