Start: Lay by for two cars at grid ref. SD 538 952 nearby Meal Bank
(S/E) From the lay-by turn left, walk uphill along the lane up to the junction with the main Applebay Road (A685) where you turn left to cross the bridge over the railway line. Just past "Gatehouse" cottage on your left, turn right at the wooden waypost and gate toward "Hay Fell". Walk uphill along the track.
(1) Keep right up past buildings and reach a wall. As you handrail it left, find a wooden gate to access the other field where we carry straight on uphill (South-East).
(2) When you hit the wall, find an information board and stile into the wall. Cross it and walk straight ahead (Southward) all the way to the top of the hill at Bensn Knott.
(3) At the top as you reach the cairn see a yellow trig point on the other hill on your right. Walk down and up to reach it and enjoy a 360-degree view over Kendal.
(4) With your back to the trig point, walk downhill along the footpath. (North-North-East)
(2) Cross the stile into the wall again but this time turn right handrailing the wall woods on your right hand side as you walk downhill (Northward). As you go stay alert!
(5) When you see a stile and waymarker on your right, turn left across the filed under the last tree on your left. (North-West-West). (If you reach a gate at the bottom and handrail a stream on your right hand you went too far.) As you walk, when you see the wall ahead of you, seek for a gate then as you look down on its right along the wall, find a stile to cross into the wall and reach the other field.
(6) Walk straight ahead across the field. You can see the building you walked past on the way up. Walk to cross the gate and reach it and the track you came from on your way up.
(2) Walk back downhill to reach the lane again where you turn left to cross the bridge over the railway then right to walk down the lane back to the layby.(S/E)
