From Autreville-sur-Moselle, you can start from the car park at the top of the village towards the village hall (this is the route shown on the map) or, if you don't mind a few extra metres of elevation gain, from the car park on the banks of the Moselle.
(S/E) Go up Rue du Plante, then Rue du Sorbier, continuing towards the forest.
(1) Just after the last houses, take the path that leads into the fields on the left (marked with a red ring). After a few hundred metres, pass a hunting hut under the trees on the left of the path.
(2) Shortly after this hut, take thefirst path that climbs up to the right towards the forest: it climbs steeply for a few dozen metres. You will arrive at a small plateau at the top of the hill.
(3) Turn left and, a few dozen metres further on, follow the path that branches off to the right (be careful not to miss it as it is not always clearly visible due to the vegetation). This path descends gently into the forest on the other side of the hill until it joins a path that branches off at a right angle to the left. This crossroads is located at the edge of the woods and offers a beautiful view of the Natagne valley and the surrounding villages.
(4) Turn left and follow this path straight down through the meadow to Ville-au-Val, which you can see at the bottom of the valley.
(5) Cross a small bridge, turn left (there is an information sign here) and then, near this sign, almost opposite, take the small path on the right that climbs between the trees along the castle grounds. You will arrive at the church.
Cross the street and continue up the small street opposite the church. This street continues as Chemin du Bois, which climbs through bushes and fields. Go straight ahead until you reach the D10d (Route de Bezaumont). You will arrive just below a stopover lodge.
(6) Cross and take the path that climbs towards the lodge, then turn left immediately so as not to pass through the private property but go around it on the left. There are three paths at this point: a small path that climbs to the right and two wider paths that go to the left. Take the one furthest to the left. If in doubt, refer to the map.
(7) When you reach the top of the hill, you will see the yurts belonging to the lodge on your right. At this point, there is a small path leading into the bushes directly opposite you. Take this small path and turn right immediately.
Follow this small, winding but pleasant path, which first runs alongside the lodge and then continues for several hundred metres until it reaches an open space next to the statue of the Virgin of Consolation at an altitude of 385 metres.
(8) The view from the plateau of the Statue of the Virgin Mary is magnificent. On a clear day, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding area, and it is an ideal place to take a break.
Then descend to the left until you reach the stony path that descends to the right towards the village of Landremont.
(9) You will then arrive in Landremont near the church. There, take the street on the left and, almost immediately, turn onto the path that descends to the right between the houses. Follow this path through fields and orchards until you reach the D10 departmental road.
(10) When you reach this departmental road, turn right and then left at the first path that leads to the farm of Villers les Prud'hommes. At the crossroads, turn right to reach this historic monument, which is well worth a look.
(11) Follow the path that goes around the farm on the right and climbs towards the forest. When you reach the entrance to the forest, climb up to the right until you reach the top of the hill.
(12) Follow the marked path on the right that passes under the power line and enters the forest.
Continue along this small winding path, which is flat at first and then becomes quite steep at the end. At the end of this path, you will see the village of Autreville below, the starting point of the hike. It also offers a wide and beautiful view of the Moselle valley.
(13) At the bend in the road, continue straight ahead, passing the fork that follows
(1) Return to the starting point, Rue de l'École (S/E), by following the same route you took on the way there.
