Aureille to Eygualières

A pleasant walk through the Alpilles.
Not particularly difficult, this is a hike that is excellent for beginners.
Nevertheless, there are beautiful stretches, commanding views and surprising natural displays of surprise and vigour.

Description of the walk

(S/F) The walk starts at the Chemin de Saint-Jean in Aureille.
Then we follow the GR6 to the right by Roucas Toussi.
A small slope leads us onto a plateau by the Chemin de la Colle where I had the chance to meet a goatherd with whom I chatted and took some beautiful pictures.
At the 4 farms, there is an excellent 180° view to enjoy.

(1) Leave the Chemin de la Colle and follow the GR6 which heads down to the right. Follow the D24 and cross the D25 (2) to take the Gros Calan forest path.

(3) After some time leave the Gros Calan to resume walking along the GR6 on the left towards Eygualières.
Visit Eygualières (which is really worthwhile, with a beautiful view at the Mas du Banon).

(4) Return by the same route with a small climb (don’t enjoy too many beers if you take a break at the boozer in Eygualières!) Turn left to return to the Chemin du Gros Calan.

(5) Follow this trail to the left (uphill) until you find yourself facing the Aureille watchtower. Now take the trail down to the junction of the D25.

(6) Cross the D25 and turn right following the 25A in parallel.
Follow the Route d’Eygualières along the D25A downhill during which you can enjoy views of the Balmes du Larron, the south Vallons and the Civadières.
Arriving at Aureille, 500 m after entering the village take a right along the Chemin de St-Jean, to return to the starting point (S/F).

Short stop at Eygualières during the journey to visit the village and have a snack before resuming the walk. The Provencal village is a lovely place to have a break.

from Eygalières on a sunny day
Very varied and bucolic paths in this spring
We used the IGN map to take as few roads as possible, using the black lines on the map.
thank you for this lovely walk

Nice easy hike on paths and tracks in very beautiful surroundings. At point 5 the start of the path is behind the cistern. After point 7, at LES MARTELLES, marker 247, to avoid the D25A, take the path marked in black on the map. this path crosses a very large enclosure. If the fence is open, it will take you to the start/finish point.
If the fence is closed, the paddock is occupied by cattle. Take the D25A and shortly after junction 175, turn right onto a track which leads to the black line on the left. At marker 245 go straight on to the start/finish point, marker 152.

Easy walk, but the return by road is not the best. At the pas de la Figuière, the first path on the left was closed off by a metal fence and the land was fenced off by several rows of barbed wire. We had to return along the road. It's a shame, because this corner of the Alpilles is superb!

One disturbing element is the blue signposting. In fact, you have to go to the end of the Chemin de St Jean and ignore the blue cross. Having used it as a reference point, we went off track and came back the wrong way, but it was still a lot of fun. This part of the Alpilles, with the visit to the village of Eygalière, is certainly the most beautiful and the most physical.

We were coming from Graveson/St Rémy and chose to start in Eygalières (point 4), especially as you can also park without any problems... 2 advantages: 1 the road section on arrival in Aureille, not very pleasant, seemed more bearable halfway through than at the end of the route. 2 Very nice view of the village of Eygalières on the way back. Very nice walk, sunshine, trees in flower and blue asters everywhere.

A monotonous walk on wide tracks. But you absolutely must make the diversions to Eygalières and visit the heights.
On the way back, at point 7, I crossed the D25 and followed the D25A to the right, which I eventually rejoined. I followed this road until a sharp bend to the left. At the pas de la Figuière, I left it by taking a track on the right, then about fifty metres further on, I took the first track on the left and followed the black line on the map. When I came to a cistern and a sharp right-hand bend, I continued straight on, which took me directly to the Saint Jean road in Aureille, about fifty metres from my vehicle, which I had parked at the end of this road.
I thus avoided the 4 km of road.

It's a lovely walk, with beautiful scenery over the Alpilles.
The only downside is that the return along the D25A is not very pleasant by the roadside.
I'm going to retrace the route by cutting through the forest at the Pas de la Figuière.

Very nice walk.
Just a few more details would be welcome, as we didn't have the GPS.
At the crossroads, when you get to the D24, go along this road for about 600 metres. At the D25 crossroads, take the forest path opposite, which is also a GR.
At this time of year it's superb, green and full of flowers.
On the road, be very careful as cars drive fast and there are lots of bends.

lovely walk, the explanations on the route are clear and precise. the only thing I didn't like was the long stretch of road at the end, even if the scenery is nice!

This easy route can be done even after 2 days of heavy rain.
Apart from the 4km of tarmac on the way out of Aureille, it's very pleasant with good quality paths.
We set off from Egalyeres and found a restaurant with a friendly welcome and affordable prices, La Table des Alpilles, for lunch in Aureille. Check opening days.

Nice, easy hike.
Point 5 should read: "at the level of two cisterns".
The only negative point is the last 4 km on the road.
Thanks again

A hike we did on 28 March 2016 in a small group (4) of good walkers.
Nice walk with no difficulties, well explained.
A stopover in Eygualières was really nice!

With my group of around twenty people, we made a slight variation so as not to follow the D25A road (which is dangerous for a group).
We took a path to the right (black line on the map) that runs parallel to the road. So we didn't pass through the village of Aureille, but overlooked it, and rejoined the GR6 by descending through the Vallon de Pelouze. The entire route is a track that 4x4s can use.

Sunday 4th January 2015
A pleasant walk, but one that we cut short: as we're elderly and know the village of Eygalières, we didn't make the round trip to the village.
