Start: The hike begins on Lindenstraße in Lauter, near the outdoor swimming pool.
(S/E) From there, the route leads past an allotment garden and the outdoor swimming pool, following the European long-distance hiking trail E3. A meadow path leads into the idyllic Griesbach Valley, where the route crosses meadows and then runs along the edge of the forest before crossing a small stream and leading into the woods.
(1) The route climbs steadily through the shady woodland. At the next junction, keep to the right and follow the ascending path through sparse woodland. Eventually, you will reach a cross-path at the edge of the forest.
(2) Turn right here.
Side trip: If you wish, you can take a short detour to the left (approx. 100 m) to the site of the former nine-trunk beech tree.
Back on the main path, the route continues on level ground through the forest and across open areas.
(3) At the Griesbach, turn left off the main path onto Buchenweg and follow it uphill again. The path remains on the E3 and leads to the Conradswiese forest school, after two right turns.
(4) Behind the forest school, keep to the right.
(5) After about 400 metres, the path leaves the E3 to the right. You now follow a quieter forest path until, after a short while, you reach the turn-off to the left for the Unterer Sachsenstein – a striking vantage point.
(6) Follow the path to the Unterer Sachsenstein.
(7) The return journey follows the same route back to the previous junction.
(6) Here, keep left. At the next junction, turn right and then continue straight on until the forest opens up, revealing a view of the Danelchristelgut with its hotel and refreshment stop.
(8) At the hotel, follow the road to the left. After several hundred metres, Lindenstraße branches off to the right; follow this downhill to the starting point in Lauter. (S/E)
