Along the water’s edge and through the groves in Bouchet

A small village has sprung up around an imposing abbey. Starting from the old town centre, follow the stony paths that run alongside the vineyards to the lush green groves from which Bouchet takes its name.

Description of the walk

Start from the car park, Cours des Lavandières.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, take Rue des Côtes du Rhône, which climbs to the left, and head towards Place de l’Abbaye. Walk past the fountain, the Cistercian abbey and the Church of Notre-Dame du Bosquet. Pass under the church porch, keep left and join the D141. Follow it towards the village path until you reach Rue du Coudair.

(1) Turn left (yellow markings). At the cross, carry on straight ahead along Route des Fontaines. Pass two junctions to reach a third.

(2) Opposite the Chemin des Sablières, take the stony path on the left, opposite the Chemin de la Blache. Continue to the wash house.

(3) Retrace your steps and turn left onto Chemin des Sablières. Carry on straight ahead to the entrance of the Bois des Roches campsite, crossing a small suspension bridge over the Ruisseau Le Grand Vallat.

(4) In front of the campsite entrance, turn right towards the vineyards. Carry on straight ahead, following the yellow markings, until you reach the signpost for the marked routes. Please note: do not follow the yellow markings any further; instead, carry on straight ahead through the vineyards. You’ll reach a viewpoint offering a beautiful, unobstructed view of Mont Ventoux, La Lance and Les Trois Becs. To the right, there’s a view of the Dentelles de Montmirail.

(5) Carry on straight ahead, then follow the road at the next junction. Continue to the junction with the Chemin du Grand Bosquet.

(6) Carry on straight ahead along the path, which becomes the Chemin des Espérant, until you reach the Chemin des Aires.

(7) Turn right and follow the yellow markings again. Pass the first path coming from the right to reach a second one.

(8) Carry on straight ahead to the D141 to return to the village. Head straight across.

(1) Cross Rue du Coudair and continue along Rue de Provence. Take the second left to return to the car park. (S/E)

Not particularly interesting, but very flat, so it’s handy if you’ve got young children.
