Return journey to Kaysersberg

A pleasant walk through the vineyards, passing through two picturesque villages, and arriving in Kayserberg. Although long, the walk presents no difficulties.

(S/E) Set off from the southern side of the village of Ribeauvillé on the Way of St James, marked by a scallop shell on a blue background near a statue of the Virgin Mary on the corner of the street that skirts the village.

(1) Pass through the village of Hunawhir, heading uphill to the right and then to the left, following the GR® markings.

(2) Walk above the village of Riquewihr and continue due south, following the GR® signposts.

(3) At a crossroads marked with a cross, head up to the right, then halfway up, turn left, following theGR® signposts. Follow the path to Kaysersberg, with a lovely view of the village.

(4) Near the end of the walk, do not head down into the village but take a vineyard path on the right which leads directly to the castle you can see; visit the castle, then head down to the village via the side, following a small path that descends to the north of the village

Notes

Villages with everything you need.
You can also take bus 106 to travel from Ribeauvillé to Riquewhir and vice versa.
In Kayserberg, there’s a coach that can take you back to Colmar.

Worth a visit

There are plenty of villages to visit – Hunawhir, Riquewhir, Kayserberg – so you’ll have to make some choices or stop along the way to spend the night; however, you can shorten the journey by using the regional buses.

Always be cautious and plan ahead when you're outdoors. Visorando and the author of this route cannot be held responsible for any accidents occurring on this route.

Avoid December at all costs, as mass tourism generated by the numerous Christmas markets will prevent you from even getting there.

This applies to all routes departing from villages in the wine-growing region.

We did the walk starting from Riquewihr; it was hot on the way back: a walk through the vineyards with no shade
We’ll have to do it again in autumn to see the autumn colours

A brilliant route. I went through the mountains on the way there and back through the vineyards. An interesting route – not monotonous, with a variety of views.
