Departure from a paid car park (see practical information) at the end of Steindalsveinen, a few hundred metres north-west of road 868.
(S/E) From the car park, follow the path that climbs up the left bank of the Gievdanjohka river (you could even call it a river as it flows into the sea). After a few tricky sections along the river, you will soon reach Steindalhytta, a group of typical Norwegian mountain cabins.
(1) Cross the stream coming from the right via a small footbridge, turn left and continue up the river. The trail descends slightly, then climbs gently again over rocky ground until you leave the forest.
(2) The trail then becomes much easier to walk on in a wide valley at the bottom of which you can see the final climb. Head west and, after a final effort over some scree, you will see the glacier in front of you. It is possible to continue to the small lake that forms at its foot.
(3) Return by the same route to the car park (S/E).
