Description of the walk

(S/E) Start the walk by parking on Wood Lane and continue on foot with the runway to your right until reaching the footpath on your left. Cross some very boggy fields.

(1) Then, turn right towards Higherhouse Farm. Once through Higherhouse Farm, continue down a very pleasant lane to Castle Mill Lane.

(2) Turn right at Castle Mill Lane and after a short distance take a right down a track towards Castle Hill Farm. Enjoy the views towards the River Bollin on the left. There are lots of horses in the fields along this route.

(3) Follow the footpath to the right towards the airport runway. There are some small ponds and information notice boards close to the runway. Keep left at the end of the path to a good viewing point towards the airport. Follow the path back to Wood Lane and back to the start of the walk.(S/E)

This a pleasant little walk and sadly part of it is disappearing under concrete. Manchester Airport have developed on either side of Sunbank Lane. There was a petition to stop it but sadly it failed. There are some before and after pictures on the slideshow.
